Because I don't think you're getting it. The bottom line is its a ridiculous price tag for a player the leafs don't exactly need. You don't give to get something you don't need, especially for a player who one would have to fight to convince anyone he's anything better than top 4... Entering UFA years to boot.

You're suggesting the leafs trade a 23 year old on pace for 35G/70P and one of their best prospects for a top 4 D they don't need that doesn't fit and a backup who might have a year left.

We have Travis Dermott who's on the cusp of fitting every stat you just outlined already playing for the team...

Our lousy cap waste contracts expire soon enough. None are holding us back while we improve. Your list of $22m has/had 3 on IR or LTIR. We are in no rush. Buyouts too.
