I played against this awful hockey player twice.
Thankfully before he became one of the greats...!

It’s obvious you pay for elite UFA’s.
Panarin got paid. Hindsight who would you want Panarin or JT?
The point is value for production & that’s where it began. Willy at 6.9m is good. - Nighthawk
I prefer JT. It's very close and Panarin is doing better right now, but the 47 goals last year and the fact that he's a centre gives JT the edge. Leafs have enough talent on the wings, upgrading the C position was a priority and he's been a great fit. |

Usually I agree a C over a winger any day but in the case of a Panarin or Kane that’s irrelevant. Imo a C that does it all is that ‘edge’ you refer to. Eg Forsberg. That said I’ve liked JT for a long time. Any player that can carry a team is great to have with position being secondary. A game changer is a game changer. |

Not in a salary cap world, and as many already know, the Leafs are right up against the cap. With Matthews, Marner and Nylander in your future top 6 forwards, two wingers and a C, the next best way to spend your money would be another centre. Three elite wingers and one centre is way too lopsided a way to spend your money. JT is a much better fit for the Leafs than Panarin IMO. |

Boeser wouldn’t of gotten 10 million.
He isn’t at that level. - Santo_44
if you can give a 4th line ahl caliber player like Eriksson $6 million long term, then $10M for Boeser is no biggie.

If we didn't overpay Marner by a couple million, we could have a player Like Beagle, Komarov, or maybe even been in on Looch. That would have really pus us over the top |

Ottawa has M. Reilly.....we can trade you him for like a 4th rd pick.
half the people spell Rielly's name that way regardless, so it will be like you never lost him. |

Are you for real? You take the 47 goal center all day every day. A good ratio to go by is the 20% one. A winger has to produce 20% more at everything to be comparable to a center.
You know who on the Leafs that's a winger who plays a possession style type of hockey like Panarin. Nope not Marner, he blew Panarin away at a younger age. Yup that's right, William (frank)ing Nylander. This is coming from a non Nylander fan and ya can laugh all ya want but Willy's numbers this year at the age of 23 are very comparable to what Panarin was doing at 24. Hopefully Willy keeps it up and in 5 years when he gets to Panarins age of now, we can compare again....

Call Columbus who legit has 9 NHL ready d-men and offer a trade. Its going to take a roster regular but the leafs could get Josh Anderson and a top 4 d-man for say..Nylander. Josh Anderson gives the leafs the forechecker and grit player they are so desperately needing that can still skate with speed and score (think Tom Wilson without being an bumhole). C-Bus could part with say Ryan Murray (Theyve wanted to trade him for a while for a winger now) who can be a top line D-man but no one is getting there with Jones and Werenski. Nutivarra is a skilled puck mover that can hold his own. The ultimate prize, but good luck, would be Savard. A legit stay at home responsible shut down d-man. He is C-bus' shutdown guy and they love him. He would be a top d-man on any other team. But, none of them are going to come cheap as everyone knows the situation in Toronto. |

I think there are some reasonable trades that will be out there. GMs like to tout leverage, but when it comes down to it they know what is reasonable and what is not. No ones going full Chiarelli in the Leafs front office no matter how much the Leaf trolls want them too.
Realistic Targets

Petro/Parayko - Depending on what they are going to do next year with Petro. Armstrong has traded players like this before.

Hmmm.
I take the hometown center who has now become our captain, we have enough wingers.
If willy gets 60-70pts than he is paid exactly what he should be. |
