Call Columbus who legit has 9 NHL ready d-men and offer a trade. Its going to take a roster regular but the leafs could get Josh Anderson and a top 4 d-man for say..Nylander. Josh Anderson gives the leafs the forechecker and grit player they are so desperately needing that can still skate with speed and score (think Tom Wilson without being an bumhole). C-Bus could part with say Ryan Murray (Theyve wanted to trade him for a while for a winger now) who can be a top line D-man but no one is getting there with Jones and Werenski. Nutivarra is a skilled puck mover that can hold his own. The ultimate prize, but good luck, would be Savard. A legit stay at home responsible shut down d-man. He is C-bus' shutdown guy and they love him. He would be a top d-man on any other team. But, none of them are going to come cheap as everyone knows the situation in Toronto.

1/2 the price of JT for the same production.
- Nighthawk

And Boeser has nebver scored 47 goals and 88 points..
One was UFA one was RFA and couldn't even play a full season yet. Why are you comparing them?
And why the hell is Vancouver paying Beagle 3 million per when Spezza is far better at 700 K?

Canucks cap is looking pretty crappy for a team that's never made the playoffs

A willie for Werenski or Jones trade I'd do for sure.
Not the others though, I'd rather keep Willie.

Team D is good enough to win in the playoffs without any moves.
- RogerRoeper

I agree, Team D is good enough to win at least one game in the playoffs.

If they get there.

I think the leafs would need to add to that deal. Both of those guys are top pairing dmen........worth more than a winger, even one as good as Nylander.

great, young, top pairing dmen are worth their weight in gold.

I love how all of sudden leafs fans get to make fun of other teams bad contracts.
We've had 20 years of bad contracts, technically currently still have one (but the term ends this year).
I betcha some leafers have just been itching to do this.

Seth Jones might cost a Marner. He's fantastic. Top 3 Dman in the NHL.

Notice how the Leafs "Bad Contracts" are a 22 year-old franchise centre on pace for 54 goals, 98 points? That's different from every other team.

Look at the crap on Vancouver's cap. Just a complete waste.

Yes, Leaf fans can laugh at Vancouver.

So they are worse than last year defensively? Sorry not seeing it.

You are down on the Leafs because of injuries and they lost 3 in a row. it's a minor bump

I was referring to ceci.
So what, its not like the leafs had decades of crap and waste on their roster.
Its a means to an end.....if it gets them young quality talent.....they'll be happy.

Much like it did for the leafs

Draisaitl when asked what he would do if he and McDavid had to play with Tkachuk in 3 on 3 at all-star game: “I would get off the ice”

Posted this yesterday but it's still funny to me.

- GreatGigInTheSky

A little funny, but also pretty pathetic at the same time lol.

Just shows Tkachuk and the rest of the Flames that he's clearly in their heads.

I don't consider a guy who's about to leave as a bad contract. Leafs can trade him.

Leafs don't have a single deal they can't move.

It is true though, majority think Matthews is a bad contract. The thing is when he's your "bad contract", you're in good shape. No other team has a bad contrcat like that LOL

Got me there we thought 1yr too long

Just a rant you slip in to justify $11m/yr that hasn’t gotten results yet. If you want to talk the present both teams are in the same boat as we now sit.

any deal can be moved for the right price.....the problem is you have lots of deals that, if moved, would never get you fair value.

nobody is going to pay a boat load for someone like Tavares, simply because nobody can fit him under the cap. obviously the leafs aren't trading him, this is just an example, but if they wanted to, they'd either have to take a bunch of salary back, or else take way less in assets, or eat a bunch of salary.

ceci can't be moved, nobody is touching that guy at 4.5 million....he's an AHL calibre dman who's compensated like a top 4 guy. you guys tried to "revive" him, and failed miserably. he's a terrible hockey player

I think the reason that people thing Matthew's contract is "bad", is obviously not the player, or the dollar amount, but the fact that the GM failed to get him to sign a max term deal. he paid max dollar and didn't buy a single UFA year. at the end of this deal, you either lose him for nothing, or likely end up paying him like 15 mil or something insane. for that dollar amount, there is ZERO excuse for not getting him to sign an 8 year deal.

The division is weak like ours. The PO’s should be no problem. Florida is the only team that can disrupt that. Ours is a 5 team logjam & any slip could be costly.

I believe they should.
But we'll see.

Also its anything but weak. We have two powerhouses in Tampa and Boston in there along with some up and comers.

Close but it’s not horseshoes or hand grenades. Like many teams it’s getting over the hump or as we say here slay the dragon. Doable but still to be done.
