I love how all of sudden leafs fans get to make fun of other teams bad contracts.
We've had 20 years of bad contracts, technically currently still have one (but the term ends this year).
I betcha some leafers have just been itching to do this.

No way he gets Jones but Werenski i could see as reasonable. I’d do that.

Notice how the Leafs "Bad Contracts" are a 22 year-old franchise centre on pace for 54 goals, 98 points? That's different from every other team.

Look at the crap on Vancouver's cap. Just a complete waste.

Yes, Leaf fans can laugh at Vancouver.

- RogerRoeper

True story.

I went ferrari shopping this weekend. List price was 299k , 50k down on the model I was looking at.

I went in at 350k with 100k down with my first offer. Suckers took it without even counterining!!

Must of of been nucks fans. Lololololo @ nucks.

Even with the 12 OTL's, you guys are still 7 games above .500.
Not bad.

any deal can be moved for the right price.....the problem is you have lots of deals that, if moved, would never get you fair value.

nobody is going to pay a boat load for someone like Tavares, simply because nobody can fit him under the cap. obviously the leafs aren't trading him, this is just an example, but if they wanted to, they'd either have to take a bunch of salary back, or else take way less in assets, or eat a bunch of salary.

ceci can't be moved, nobody is touching that guy at 4.5 million....he's an AHL calibre dman who's compensated like a top 4 guy. you guys tried to "revive" him, and failed miserably. he's a terrible hockey player

I think the reason that people thing Matthew's contract is "bad", is obviously not the player, or the dollar amount, but the fact that the GM failed to get him to sign a max term deal. he paid max dollar and didn't buy a single UFA year. at the end of this deal, you either lose him for nothing, or likely end up paying him like 15 mil or something insane. for that dollar amount, there is ZERO excuse for not getting him to sign an 8 year deal.

If you only didn’t live in the moment & did some projecting. Lol

You make it out like it’s the great divide. It’s a waste once it actually is a hinderance. Unless you claim it’s stopping us from cup contention then I can agree.

So they are worse than last year defensively? Sorry not seeing it.

You are down on the Leafs because of injuries and they lost 3 in a row. it's a minor bump

- RogerRoeper

Now you claim injuries but no other team can? You have the excuse machine on full speed.

I don't consider a guy who's about to leave as a bad contract. Leafs can trade him.

Leafs don't have a single deal they can't move.

It is true though, majority think Matthews is a bad contract. The thing is when he's your "bad contract", you're in good shape. No other team has a bad contrcat like that LOL

- RogerRoeper

Who said AM’s contract was bad?

by the TDL he isnt owed 4.5mil, he is a UFA and shouldnt be hard to move if they wanted.

Problem is, it doesnt seem like they want to. could be wrong, but i get a sense the Leafs think he is fine. Biggest issue I have with the current manag.

I believe they should.
But we'll see.

Also its anything but weak. We have two powerhouses in Tampa and Boston in there along with some up and comers.

- Fakepartofme

Leaves the 3rd spot open. I refer to Detroit Ottawa Buffalo & the Habs. We have our lousy divisional teams also. Both teams have the other better divisions to beat out for the WC.

Every time Marchand takes a penalty shot or shootout you know that'll always be in the back of his mind. Hopefully to the point it always (frank)s him over

Kinda like receiving an award and not wanting to be the one to trip down/up the stairs. Then it happens to you

yes, his cap hit is less at the TDL, but that's relative......they could easily get a guy on a 1 mil contract, for probably less of an asking price, who's a significantly better player.

Ceci is an AWFUL player, who makes everyone he plays with worse. Jesus, Morgan Rielly was a Norris calibre dman last year playing with Ron (frank)ing Hainsey......this year he's been paired mostly with Ceci and has turned into a (relatively speaking) tire fire of a dman. anyone who plugs ceci into their lineup will end up being a worse team as a result.....nobody will take that deal on

It's just frustrating, that so many of those OTL's have come on the backs of 3rd period leads. It doesn't bode well for the playoffs. They need to clean that poop up or they could be bounced in the 1st round. I think they've been slugging through a bit of cup hang over (still exists without the win) this past month, month and a half.

I hardly even notice him on the ice half the time which is a good thing. Often forget he's even on the team lmao.

Could be that I'm drinking with a bunch of friends for 95% of the games but still.. he has been far from bad.

While I agree with everything else you said about Ceci, it would be unfair to suggest that the Leafs did the deal because they thought they had a diamond in the rough.

It was about dumping Zaitsev's contract.

I franking hate Ceci, and I still do that deal 10 times out of 10.
