I like it.

Normally the Maple Leafs franchise will only take one blue-chip defenceman, rush him in to the NHL before he is ready, shatter his confidence, have Leafs Nation boo him mercilessly, ruin his career and then dump him.

Two at a time? Much more efficient.

They paired him with Rielly, because our former coach was taking a shot at Dubas.

Yeah. Might as well. We know what we have in Marincin and Ceci who are both ok in limited roles. Not saying I want Sandin to take on 25 minutes a game, but an extended top pairing look at Dermott and Holl would be a useful outcome of this injury bug.

So keep in mind I coach at an...ummmm...slightly lower level than the NHL.

But there is strategy involved in putting your best player with your...ummmm...not quite best player on defence.

Especially (!) when you simply don't have enough talent with your six players. No point in loading up your top line if it means your next two pairings are going to get caved in every time they step on the ice.

I'm a firm believer that your top two defencemen should not play together.

I understood the idea behind the LHD/RHD pairings, but it wasn't effective for us when he was here.

risky yes - in that Sandin and Liljegren are rookies.... but at least they know each other to some degree...

it might significantly more challenging for Sandin to have him play with a guy who's completely unconventional - like Barrie.

everyone's commenting on Babcock's deployment of Ceci with Rielly as problematic... reflecting on that wouldn't Keefe have a pretty good idea of how to match up the pairs where Sandin and Liljegren are concerned?

the real problem is that it likely means that Barrie will pair with Marincin - which to me is terrifying.

I would have loved Babcock if I was like him.

I think Leafs go on a big win streak here. Muzzin will be back after all-star break.
