Apparently, the cold weather cracked a rail on the city's LRT!!!!
That's cold, baby!! Even by our standards.

How frozen are the falls? We are visiting Rochester this weekend and I am toying with going to the NY side. Can't do Canadian since my wife's passport expired.

Depends on the hour!
It's cold today, but it was 11 degrees and raining most of the weekend.

And please, do not visit NF, NY. Save yourself the time and money by just heading down to whatever ghetto is closest to home!!
Unless you are looking for phenomenal wings!!

edit: sorry! by 11 degrees, I mean 52 F.

It's a crime to compare anyone to Gretzky so I'm not that mad but he REMINDS me of him how he just never gets hit and knows where to be and what to anticipate next. Just an amzing hockey player right now who is shining.

It's pretty awesome. Rangers have two legit scoring lines now. The "kid line" is starting to pick it up as well. That was the best game Kakko played in a long time. Just needs to shoot more instead of skating the puck around the net on odd man rushes.
- TPC

Kak man looked so down after failing to get a scoring chance on that 3 on 1, like near tears. Then later got another odd man rush and again didn't make a play and just carried the puck around the net. Confidence is really lacking in that young man.

Not a bust lol just was hoping for more. I get he’s 18, hopefully it’s just a get to know the NHL year and he explodes next year. He needs to get stronger and I recall hearing how strong he was with the puck when we were all debating last year...that’s what I’m worried about more then anything. He’s kinda weak

He looks tired to me. I think he's still strong on the puck most of the time but he's gassed halfway through every shift. It could be the longer schedule or the speed of play or both, but the good news is that conditioning is a relatively easy thing to work on this offseason

Absolutely!
One amazing play that I don't remember getting mentioned was on Kreider's long distance play from Tony D last week. If Breadman isn't there at the far blue line faking that he's taking that pass and then letting it go through his legs, a la Lemieux in Salt Lake City, then Kreids doesn't end up with the free lane to the net!

He def wasn't ready for the grind of NHL hockey, his natural ability can't dominate at this level alone

Mentioning Mario its funny as a youtube suggestion just a little while ago appears the game he scored 5 goals at the Garden at the end of the brutal 92-93 season. I just watched the last goal when he totally deeked Richter out of his skates and the crowd gave him a standing O. As much as I hated him that was a cool moment. He missed 1/3 of that year and still came back to win the scoring title fairly easily over LaFontaine.

Not to nitpick because that was a great play but that was Howden who let the puck through his legs. Panarin was behind ADA preparing for the normal breakout where he follows up from behind

Is it out of the realm of possibility to think that Staal retires after this year? He's got one year left in which he's due $4.2M. He just turned 33, which isn't terribly old but his game has obviously slowed and he's dealt with injuries not just this year but his whole career. That would save us $5.7M next year, allowing us to keep pretty much everybody, and he would be another great candidate for an office job with the team. Would also allow him to go out as a "hero" so to speak

Editing to add that part of the $4.2 he's owed is a $1M bonus which he could retire after receiving.

We got lucky twice (Naslund, Drury) with players retiring and coming off the cap. How about Hank & Staal both go out after this year?

I really just don't see Hank retiring, and beyond the cap that doesn't bother me too much. I think he's valuable to keep around while Shesty gets his footing in the league as a starter and Georgie can bring us back some needed assets at forward. Staal on the other hand has watched the game pass him by unfortunately and while he's admittedly playing pretty well this year, I don't know that he's going to get a contract after this one, whereas someone will sign Hank for less money for sure. So Hank would be giving up multiple years as opposed to one by Staal.
