So, you didn't like that he used the very, very ineffective Brown-Nylander-Marleau line in the Bruins series? - PatC80
Not gonna lie, I don't miss either of those dudes. |

The irrational part was never trying it, even during a losing streak, even in game 7 down 2 goals in the 3rd. Generally if you need a goal you might consider putting your 2 best players out together - BestRapperAlive
yeah, I'm a little shocked they didn't throw out Matthews, Tavares and Marner.
I mean, what the frank do you have to lose? |

Same here..
I admit, I never understood sticking with that line even though they could not do anything offensively or defensively for that matter.
Bruins had someone shadow Nylander, so Marleau and Brown decided to help the Bruins just shadow Nylander |

Marleau was a mistake.
Yeah, the press had great fun with the whole "dad" thing, but at the end of the day, his output was not worth the contract. 47 points first year, 37 second year.
We could have got a "wily vet" for a helluva lot less, and kept our 1st rounder this year.
Oh well. |

I, obviously, don't want that. It's advantageous for the Leafs. There was a lot of grousing in the off-season - that we all must remember. Guys like Friedman and LeBrun were talking about how some of the NHL's have-nots were not fans of the fact that some teams could pay out so much in Signing Bonuses - because many teams couldn't afford to do so.
I don't remember (largely because I don't care and I'm not affected), but I think in some cases there are tax advantages to the signing bonus, and there are obvious play advantages in that it guarantees a payout even if there's a lockout.
The LTIR thing . . .I can't remember the context around it. I think it had specifically to do with moving players for the sole purpose of extending your LTIR reach (ie, if you're already operating in LTIR, trading adding more LTIR space should be capped or prohibited), - Monkeypunk
NJ was warned about doing that deal and I remember reports and the talking heads discussing it. That something would happen if they did that contract. It happened but Lou just shrugged and said "doesn't matter for the remainder of my time here" and did it anyway.

If it wasn't for dubas we could have
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Brown-Tavares-Marner
Marleau-Kadri-Kapanen
Martin-Gauthier-Komarov
Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Dermott
Marincin-Carrick
Andersen
McElhinney
Imagine that lineup? I bet that lineup could get out of the first round.
Also assuming Babcock is still around, throw Glendening in as the 13th forward |

. . . but as a result Nashville was able to arrive early? |

You are making this far too complicated.
FFS, just give the Leafs the Habs' 2024 1st round pick and Nashville's 2025 1st round pick. |

I think that was always the issue. Couldn't just go marner - Tavares - matthews and see how it goes? Nothing to lose. |

Andersen would start 70 games. Komarov and Marleau would lead the team in ice time and Brown would get more PP time than Nylander.

Exactly. They just watched the season dwindle away without trying anything to keep it alive. I still think game 6 was the biggest opportunity though, they needed to play with more urgency and end the series right there. The game 7 loss was a foregone conclusion |
