It was a unique situation with a team playing a system other teams hadn't had very long to adjust to, ridiculous momentum brought on by the excitement of being underdogs and having a rabid fanbase behind them, as well as each and every player buying in completely, not to mention a goaltender playing out of his mind.
I don't think you can capture that lightning in a bottle again. I mean ffs Karlsson scored 43 goals that year. He will never even come close to that again. - NorthNuck
That's very much true - a ton of players had career years by a wide margin (Cody Eakin had 27 pts as their 4thC) and of course Fluery stealing games/series. But I really don't believe in the "you must have #1&2 C, #1&2D to win a cup." That Pens team a few years back had Cole, Schultz as their top pair. |

There is no formula, but there are parameters that will increase your odds, such as having top pairing Dmen or strong center depth.
Imo a GMs job is just about setting the table to allow for a breakout playoffs as many years in a row as you can and hoping your guys can mesh at the right time. |

I heard Shorty say something last night like the Canucks scored the first goal 12 games in a row from Mid DEcember up until the Florida game - so how is that killing us? IMO their starts have been quite good. - Brooks_Light
Yeah they did. They also had a bad stretch where they gave it up I think 9 games in a row. That's moot.
How many times has Marky and Demko had to make 5 alarm saves and stand on their heads before they got going? I just think there's been too many games where teams had us on the ropes before we got our feet moving. Where we've stepped on the gas a little later than the opening drop of the puck. It's just one area where I think we can improve. |

I thought it might be you since you were once obsessively advocating for Carlyle as an assistant for Green and his legendary coaching staff. - Marwood
So you admittedly twist comments around just so you can make derogatory remarks to try to pacify your need for daily abusive behavior together others

When it’s the kids leading the way with some vets as linemates some inconsistencies can be expected. Drives home the point even more so Edler & Tanev’s importance on D. JTM helping Brock pick up his game & help the line on D more than only offence is a good step. Bo is ok on D but Pearson & LE are helping that line. Gaudette gets limited TOI for a reason while he hones his 200’ game. The 4th line could give more shutdown results but it’s been a line in turmoil & changes all season. Line dynamics is probably the biggest challenge coaches face & the players given to them. Patience is still required.
Scoring hasn’t been a problem but it has fizzled now & then. I attribute sloppy passes & some bad luck to that. The PP well we have talked that to death. The PK can be hot & cold. |

I’d go
Gallant HC
Carlyle as AC for defense
Oates as AC for the PP |

I thought since you wanted Carlyle as an assistant that you might suggest Gallant as an assistant. I'm sorry you find that abusive. Your sensitivity is endearing but you might want to look into some anger management programmes. |

It would be exciting to see every player live up to their potential and the youth develop under that staff
And some structure in all 3 zones and all 3 facets(ES/PP/PK) of the game |

No anger here...you're the 1 that promotes hate on a daily basis....and in the last 24 hours said you thrive on the misery of others |
