I'd feel a lot better going into next year with

Olofsson-Eichel-Reinhart
Skinner-Bonino-Mojo
Whoever-Cozens-Whoever

At least you know what you're going to get. If you can do better, awesome. But doing nothing is much worse - as we've seen

- jcragcrumple

I'm with you. If he's plan C,D,E.. whatever. Think you trade Asplund for him.

And the thing is every arena has the technology its just nobody cared to do it.

Imagine if the Pegula's listened to half the ideas the fans had about the fan experience.

They've done some things that deserve credit, but poop like this was, I'm sure, requested and denied several times in the past.

I've read that DeBoer and Reaves really hate each other. Vegas also has been looking for D help. I would offer McCabe for Reaves straight up. Salaries are nearly equal. If you can work a bigger trade to get Tuch, even better. If Reaves doesn't work out or doesn't seem like he wants to re-sign, I think he would fetch more at the deadline than McCabe would.

Just curious, what was the Risto trade and what kind of raise did you give Olofsson, Mitts, Ullmark and Pilut?
- adambuffalo

I'd post it if I saved it, which I didn't as I was just doing it out of curiosity.
I tried to be conservatively realistic (error on moderately high side).
Like Lazar from $700k up to $1.375 as an example.
I want to say Olo got a bridge deal around D $4.0 - $4.25m

Trade was not defined, only that I used Risto as the bait in a package with 1st being top 10 protected and with a prospect (Tage if I recall correctly)...that was for a 2C at $8m.

That roster would have some issues to deal with after the bridge deals, but Mojo drops off as well along with Cap going up the season after Seatfle and TV contract comes online .

EDIT: Mitts was bridged as well, then sent to AHL for the 2020-2021 season.
As with anything, debates can be had, but I tried to be reasonable

He can't even stay upright. He recently hurt himself on a breakaway goal because he ran into the boards unassisted while spinning and falling
- jcragcrumple

LMAO, but true....the only thing that stops the Latvian locomotive is the boards.

I agree,
I must say they have come a long way to be better. But something like this seems like it just comes down to lazyness. Im sure its well heres our goal song its our identity.... and 3 teams play the same thing

Should really help the scoring.

Pass. Then you're down another D and you re forced to play Bogo, which is (frank)ing terrible, and you're still up to your eyeballs in cap expenditures.

Sharks just announced that each player will have their own goal song. About time someone tried this.

Sabres powerplay is 3rd in the league at 6-16 in the month of January.

Ranks per month are as follows.

2nd in October
31st in November
23rd in December
3rd in January

Records per month are as follows.

9-4 in October - 69% w%
3-11 in November - 21% w%
5-9 in December - 36% w%
4-2 in January - 67% w%

Quality of competition is obviously a factor as well, but by simply cherrypicking PP stats per month, they directly correlate with team w% per month.

Do special teams matter? They need to matter with this team.

The "Special Teams don't matter" here argument was completely misconstrued. They can absolutely win you games, in fact a lot of them, in a season. However, if you live and die by them, like the Sabres are doing, you probably don't get very far at the next level. Same with being a one-dimensional team in football.

It's been no secret he has wanted out of Calif for quite a while now. I thought he would stay on the west coast.

Galchenyuk has primarily received 3rd line minutes over his career, not top 6. This year he is getting 4th line minutes playing with Lafferty and Kahun and is still on pace to get 36 points.
He's a center that keeps getting moved forced to wing due to the teams needs.
Over his career his average for 82 games is 20g 25a, while playing just over 15 minutes a night.
We would have no need for that kind of trash here.

- adambuffalo

I disagree. That is the perfect type of player to get on the cheap and give him another shot. Retain as much of Bogos salary as needed and make a 1-1 swap. Play him and 2C and go from there. What's the worst that could happen? He wasn't good enough to resign at a price that is acceptable and he gets to UFA? Bogo is gone after the season anyway. That's a good hockey trade. When healthy making a playoff push we could look something like this:

Olo - Eichel - Reinhart
Skinner - Gally - Mojo
Vesey - Lazar - Sheary/Frolik
Girgs - Larry - Okposo

Really, your argument is that we're trading a defenseman? And although he's not going to light the lamp regularly, Reaves has as many goals as Vesey and Okposo and more than Larsson, Mitts and ERod.
We wouldn't be bringing him in to score, but to protect our scorers. He's also played in the playoffs every year he's been in the league and in 10 playoff games last year had as many goals as ERod has had in the last 37 regular season games.

I'd buy that. And while this team is vastly improving at 5v5, it's imperative for this team to be great at the powerplay to win. And that's... not great. The Oilers are, yet again, similar.
