Yeah, of course, getting to unrestricted free agency is the gold mine. So I see either an 8x8 deal, a 5/$35 or arbitration followed by UFA status
- jcragcrumple

If he commands 8x8, or even 7x8 on the open market, the better move is to trade him.

I would have felt better if we showed up for 60 minutes in both of those games

The Sabres are eerily similar to Pittsburgh. Only difference being the obvious fact they have a little more fire power up front.

Both teams limit high danger chances in the top percentile in the league, the Penguins goaltenders though have saved more of those said HD chances against them Ullmark/Hutton have.

Probably explains why Pittsburgh had the best record in the league from the time Crosby went down till now.

I think offence is created on player talent and intuitiveness for the most part, it’s team defence that is harder to preach and deploy.

If they can continue to play team defence at this rate, acquire a goaltender that can split starts with Ullmark, and get an above average 2C in here to give an uptick in secondary scoring, the sky is the limit for this club.

I don't think so.. recent RFAs playing around his points per game are in the 6-7M range. Which is a perfectly acceptable range of salary for him.

It’ll be a quantitative test of Botterill to see what numbers Sam ends up with.

Funny too, if you go back to when some of these players were drafted and some of the picks traded away, or used on scrubs, a few of those players could or should have been Buffalo Sabres. This team, could have been very good right know if the rebuild hadn't been severely mishandled.

The blues are incredible playing at home ..... so before the game / looking at the games. I didn’t have much hope for winning that game.

If the Sabres can get healthy with skinner and olofsson.

Maybe we make a miracle run. (Highly doubt it)

The 11 game stretch after the all star break is as appealing as a stretch as you could ask for. I'm overly optimistic but if they can consistently put it together like they did last night we may be looking at a meaningful march/april.

That's the Okposo deal all over again. That's a contract that bad teams give out in UFA.

I was at the Blues game. They just shut us down. Outside of Eichels goal and post they gave us absolutely nothing and we shut down. More effort? Maybe. Blues best in the league at doing this though

stone averaged 60 points a year for the last 3 years and got 9.5 per
reinhart will be around or over 60 points for his last 3 years

anyone expecting a long term deal below 7 mil will be sadly, upset

With the direction money is going in contracts in the NHL, I would not even blink at 7-8M for Reinhart. It is just the length of the deal I was surprised at.

Sam would obviously want to be a UFA at or around age 30 to get another big deal. I'd guess something like a 5x8M deal and it'd be gravy.

If I didn't know the results from last night and just read the comments here I would have thought we got smoked 8-1.

Couldn't watch it, but followed the action on Twitter. I also watched the highlights on YouTube which was from the Dallas feed.

Couple of things the announcers said were really positive. On one play, Mojo pass to Lazar I believe, they mentioned how noticeable Johansson has been all night.
Later towards the end they were really complimentary about Frolik and Lazar saying they were the best players on the ice in the 3rd.

Must be tough to play in Buffalo when the other teams announcers give you a lot more credit and respect after a win than your own fans do.

I’d be ecstatic with a long term deal in the 7s.... I just think it’s where market is going now... but I’d try and get the deal done now and not wait till the end of the season...

I'd put a 8 year 7 mil per on the table

and a 5 year 7.5 mil per on the table

see what happens
