If I didn't know the results from last night and just read the comments here I would have thought we got smoked 8-1.

Couldn't watch it, but followed the action on Twitter. I also watched the highlights on YouTube which was from the Dallas feed.

Couple of things the announcers said were really positive. On one play, Mojo pass to Lazar I believe, they mentioned how noticeable Johansson has been all night.
Later towards the end they were really complimentary about Frolik and Lazar saying they were the best players on the ice in the 3rd.

Must be tough to play in Buffalo when the other teams announcers give you a lot more credit and respect after a win than your own fans do.

it will be interesting the length of this contract
- homiedclown

I mean any smart agent will tell his client to structure it that he will get a chance to be a UFA again around the age of 30. The CBA/Salary Cap structure is going to change again here soon too.

Usually a team only signs a 23-25 kid to a 8+ year deal if they are of Eichel/McDavid/Matthews/etc caliber player for your team. If he is your #1 guy then you throw that money at them and you walk away happy.

I have had several hangovers after drinking the sabres kool aid

I will be cautiously optimistic for the near future

- homiedclown

Yeah, the Sabres are playing well with all the injuries and stuff. Gotta give them credit for that.

The Sabres / botts have made moves toward improvements. Frolik on the PK / sobotka jr He’s been huge on the PK.

Lazar and pilut up too.

Less bogo and miller

Every little bit helps

flip side, if they move him away from eichel, he is probably a 50 to 55 point player, and when it's time to cash in 5 years later, the return might not be as high as taking an 8 year deal now

it will be interesting

8 years is the max allowed by the CBA. And you're right. The only players at 23-25 that should be getting that length of contract is that caliber of player. Reinhart isn't that caliber of player, nor will he ever be.

I mean.... moving a winger away from a unquestioned top 5 maybe top 3 center in the NHL would hurt anyone's production.

Look at Skinner this year. Or how well Olofsson was doing.

5 year x 7.5-8M is where I would sit at personally. Go 6 years no problem.

I didn't backread so I'll just assume most on here bagged on the team before the game started, stopped crying while the team was winning but found something negative about the team to female dog about after the game... Sound about right?

Botts just traded you for a 4th
- Sabretooth9

Pretty good!
I was a walk on, getting a 4th is huge since I asked for a trade publically 3 times in the last week!

Maybe we can get Sam to take a discount if we sign Griffin to the Amerks. He hasn't played in like 4 years, but if it gets us Sam long term at $7m I'd do it.

Talk about not living up to your draft position. #4 overall pick. In fact, look at that entire 2012 draft. People that complain that we took Girgs instead of Wilson or Teravainen or who ever should be glad we didn't make some of the other selections teams made. Girgs has played the 6th most games and is 10th in scoring forwards in that draft class. 6 were drafted after him, 1 isn't in the league anymore (Yakupov), 1 is an overpaid goon that only scores because he plays with Ovie (Wilson) and 1 has recently been claimed to be worthless and wouldn't be able to help this team even though he has 312 points in 528 games and could be had for a bottom 6 forward (Galchenyuk).

I'd put a 8 year 7 mil per on the table

and a 5 year 7.5 mil per on the table

see what happens

- homiedclown

Not how itll work.

Reinhart will ask for 8, team will ask for 5, he'll get 6.75.

Look at similar RFAs.

Point gets 6.75 for 3
Konecny and Horvat gets 5.5 for 6
Laine gets 6.75 for 2
Boeser gets 5.875 for 3
Guentzel gets 6 for 5
Teravainen gets 5.4 for 5
Gaudreau gets 6.75 by 6 (older contract, can probably prorate that to 7.5, and he's the best player here)

Save this post, Sam Reinhart's getting close to 6.75x5

If we buy UFA years, he gets upwards of 7.5

I would be okay with that.

Perhaps I had my order wrong. I meant that if it takes 7 or 8 years at $8 million to keep him here, you need to trade him.

Close, except some never stopped crying. It doesn't fit their narrative when the team wins.

That's the Okposo deal all over again. That's a contract that bad teams give out in UFA.
- buffalofan19

I see.
Sam is just 24 yo...I'd like to see a 5 or 6 year deal...$7.25 - $7.5m

Yup 17 of them of them moved over 4 years, but keep on with the "they don't move" BS.
That take is as tired as it is wrong, get off the false narrative to fit your love for Botts.

- IonSabres

Keep going back to a time before Botts was looking for a 2C to fit your narrative

stone averaged 60 points a year for the last 3 years and got 9.5 per
reinhart will be around or over 60 points for his last 3 years

anyone expecting a long term deal below 7 mil will be sadly, upset

In your opinion, what is he worth at say 6 years?
