Same. Although it hurts our long term development to continuously get mid round picks, I'd rather see them play hard and miss, then tank. It almost seems...disrespectful..to the franchise. We tend to hold a higher standard to the organization. We're not the Leafs, Sabres, or Oilers. - Darksyde
and they will remain a middle of the pack team |

I gotta disagree here Darky, as big a fan as I am, they need to tank to get that franchise player or two.
They ain't going anywhere anytime soon.
Short term pain for long term gain.
That's how this league works.. |

so I guess "meaningful" = "there's still a bit of hope so the outcome of games still matters"? |

Edmonton would beg to differ. Then again, with McDavid they're bound to win one day or another I guess... |

Or you could take Pittsburgh and Chicago as an example instead of Edmonton.... |

Well, they're rid of the ex Oiler regime that f'd them over for all those years.
Solid management now and solid coaching, I wouldn't be surprised if they are challenging for the cup in the next 5 years. |

For sure. My point was there are no guarantees, so the habs better get their poop straight in the development and drafting departments if they're going that route |

There's never any guarantee. It just increases the odds...which is always a good thing. |

I think the difference is the Habs have some decent youth in the pipeline, where EDM had poop and got more poop to come in and just focused on the poop. |

Might, ya.
8th in the conference right now, 3 points away from 2nd, with games in hand on 3 teams above them.
I think they've got a chance.. |

Which is why if they're giving away a first for Tatar Habs should take it. Might get a lottery pick. |

id love to tank Detroit style and get a few years of those top picks, no question. i wanted them to do that a few years ago. but they're not doing that. so if we're not going to compete for a Cup either way, i'd at least like to see some entertaining hockey now and then. |
