Half the people who post here have been saying this for 3 years now, including you.
Always next year and excuses as if its your job on the line... ya'll are mediocre and thus, fine with a mediocre product. - BeadyEyedDouche
The archives say I expected us to pick in the 10-15 range this year since we were not able to acquire a 2C. I understand the possibility of drafting impact players higher in the draft.
I want to build a cup contender that consistently makes the playoffs.
Different sport, however the 49ers are playing in the Super Bowl this year after 6 years of not making the playoffs.
The Hurricanes had a heck of a run last year after having the longest playoff drought in the NHL at that point.
Look at every team in the NHL, most of their rosters are comprised of their own drafted and developed talent. Most of those teams drafted high several times as well (with Boston being the exception)
What do you mean never happen? He was literally moved barely more than a month ago.
Also, yeah, Kessel was moved in the summer, great, and? I'm pretty sure it was obvious the Sabres needed forwards in the summer.
Botts is gun-shy. 2 (frank)ing years in a row he threw away a great start because he refused to make a move. Yeah, deals don't grow on trees, neither are they so rare as white bison. - Wetbandit1
Also,
Kessel wasn’t waiving to come here - jdfitz77
no clue if he would have waived or not
A. he played when botts was their assistant GM
B he played his entire NHL career in the NE
C it's an american city and closer to his hometown then phoenix
D skinner waived to come here
to say he would not waive to come here, just is not correct

If we end up picking in the #10 - #15 range, do we draft Askarov?
I'll hang up and listen. - Sir Tindoom
Well, I'm only going by the reports by so-called experts on prospects, but I think it is worth it in that range. I have heard comparisons to Tukka Rask and other very, very good goalies. Having a stable of good young goalies and Dmen in the pipeline allows for great cost control at key positions, especially if they have Eichel, Olofsson, Reinhart, Skinner all locked up longer term.

65 goalies have been taken in the first round
could easily make the case that only 8 lived up to the hype

wilson doesn't really count - homiedclown
He definitely counts, clown
NHL contract, veteran, signed to play specifically for the Sabres. Demoted.
Considering the low salary, I could see why he's not significant.
But Moulson definitely counts. That was the only true, big money demotion Botts has done. And thank Christ he's the only one we needed to do that to. He became absolutely unplayable. Some can argue Bogosian has hit that status, but I don't really think so.. yet.

burying a million dollar fringe nhl scrub is nothing like burying a 2.75 million dollar goalie who is suppose to be in his prime - homiedclown
Added.
Also, it is absolutely more significant to bury Hutton than Wilson. However, the team will give him more than enough chances to work through it. Guarantee he gets the rest of the year if he's not traded. If he starts next year like this year's going, think there's a real chance he gets the demo.

He's drawn comparisons to Carey Price. My concern is he didn't dominate world juniors and I thought he would be better. Doesn't have the best stats in the VHL this year but the scouting reports are all positive and see him as a sure thing and franchise goalie.
If Botts thinks he's the BPA at that time, they should pick him. If Lundell, Holloway or Raymond are available, I go that route.
