But the “just get anyone bc they’re better than nothing” thinking is how we ended up with guys like Sheary, Vesey, Sobotka, etc
Do we really want more of that?
No thanks

- jdfitz77

Again, I'm just being realistic about how this GM typically operates. 2nd + 5th + Pu

But yeah, I'd rather have Bonino or equal for next year instead of depending on Cozens. I'd obviously really love to have a guy like Point, but that's not his MO

Gally? 🤷‍♂️
Brassard? 🤷‍♂️

Roustilian? - I’m guessing Ahl for a season for him

I agree, he needs to bring someone that plays center in, if he starts a third season with hopes and prayers on a rookie, a 3rd year that’s struggling in the Ahl. Or a converted winger I’ll be severely disappointed....

- Gr8daygo

Gally at least for the rest of this year is worth a shot

Brassard doesn’t score much anymore,
but at least he plays 100% and is good defensively

Names worth considering at least if we can’t bring in legit 2Cs

Depends what kind of contract they’d want though

I'm serious though, put it in the context of the rest of the comment. Do you see Botterill trading for someone like him for a mid rounder and a prospect, or do you see him trading a 1st and Mittelstadt for someone indisputably good?

I'd bet the house on the former. I don't agree with it, but isn't that who this GM is?

- jcragcrumple

There’s no convincing you otherwise so the point is moot.

He’s made big deals on several occasions including O’Reilly, Montour and Skinner.

Has traded a former top 10 pick in Nylander.

You think he isn’t going to ever make a big move. That’s cool. I refuse to think like that

I don't dispute that Botterill seems trigger-shy when it comes to trades, and I don't buy the "well, nobody's making trades so it must not be his fault" defense either, but Point is not leaving Tampa. They will figure out a way to keep him.

And that’s all completely fair to say

Where i have a problem is when you guys suggest crap like Bjugstad and say,
“It’s better than what we’ve got...”
Bc the thing is, we already KNOW they aren't good at hockey,
so who cares if they’re a “center” or not?

The highest pick he ever moved was a low first

The best prospect he moved was Nylander

If you want a Point or something very good, you're moving a high 1st and Mittelstadt at a minimum. That's just not in his DNA

I dunno. You bring in Ngokoue, that's a ton of dough on DE. Like, way too much.
- TheSabresTaco

We just need to get rid of some of the overpaid DEs we have

Can we drop Murphy & sign Lawson for cheaper?
I hate the new Jerry Hughes deal
Why we continue to overpay him is a mystery to me

Bonino is one of the best 2way 3Cs in hockey
Bringing him in is light years better than Bjugstad,
who is an average at best 3rd liner
If we can pry Bonino from Nashville, GREAT
No to Turris, No to overpaid/overrated RyJo

It’s better to play the kids than just bring in more “blah” players

- jdfitz77

Bonino for 1 year at 4.2 mil for 3rd line center is good, but Coyle long term at 5.2 is bad for third line center?

Yes
Bonino is MUCH better
And for short term as opposed to overpaying someone for like 5yrs or whatever Coyle got

Also, talk on here was ppl willing to give up a 1st for Coyle, and that’s just dumb

a first for coyle is dumb

no way bonino is better

and when they both retire coyle's stats will be much better

bonino has maybe 2 more years in the nhl, coyle has 7 or 8

Galchenyuk is a horrible hockey player, why people want another 3rd or 4th line player on this team is baffling.

Don't know how this would look to FA signing here. He signed for reasonable money and was great at the beginning of the year. That's like holding up a sign saying "Sign here and we'll trade you."
- SDSabre

It really would depend on what happened in my opinion. If he got traded to a team that goes to the Finals win or lose, would a player think badly about the Sabres for giving him the opportunity? Also would depend on the offer. Last year the Bruins gave a 2nd and a 4th for him at the deadline as a rental. He's on a pretty good contract with one year left, do you think anyone would blame the Sabres if an offer of Galchenyuk and a 2nd came through. Not saying it's going to happen, just that it's not necessarily a bad idea.
Will Montreal look bad when they trade Kovalchuk for a 2nd or 3rd? He signed for the league minimum and two months later they trade him, likely to a team he didn't want to go to or a team that didn't want to offer him a contract to begin with.

You’re wrong
Bonino is a superior player right NOW
Which is all i care about

We don’t need Coyle for 7 or 8 years
We have Mitts & Cozens

If they got rid of Murphy they could save 7.2 mill on the cap. But unless they resign Lawson or go after 1 of the DE available in FA can't see it happening cause we would be very short handed at DE.

If you look at gallys yearly production during his career. He is a 45-50 point player. The Sabres would gladly take that kind of production at 3C

If we can move Mitts for a better piece, do it. I don't think Mitts has shown he can be defensively capable for a 3C, and his offense isn't there for a 2C.

I'll take Zach Parise's earlier production, too.

Even if it sends out a disgruntled erod or bogo?

Would you rather see bogo screwing the pooch on the backend. Or gally trying to screw the pooch at 2c for the rest of the season?

Edit: getting bogo out of the locker room conceivably gets Miller in the lineup regularly...

Gladly pass? We are 10 points out of a playoff spot. Why not roll the dice?

Gally till the end of year.... if he sucks. You move on from him. He does well. He gets another contract.

I rather go down with the ship and try and make the team a little better than just let it flat out sink.

Gally is better than sheary Erod vesey and Keep the LOG line together.

Anything is better than staying put
