He’s probably going to get somewhere between $3.5 to $4. Is $4M too much? Maybe a tad, but what do you pay even an average 2nd pairing dman? Also, who’s a available if they let him walk?
The Pens don’t have a ton of assets and they’re probably dealing some good ones this year on a forward.
I think people need to start getting over it now, but he’s probably getting something like Maatta. IMO we’re probably seeing the extent of his regression, so I think he’s fine. - Rinosaur
Don’t get it twisted. I’d give him a Maatta contract before letting him walk. I’d just prefer to not do so and have Rutherford actually give a team friendly contract on purpose for once rather than being “fair”. |

That goes without saying, but others here are freaking out if he gets $4M. I have to think that despite how happy they’ve(JR & Co.) been with JJ this year that they try to move him again for cap purposes, especially if they intend to move forward with MM over Jarry. I think JJ getting moved makes Petts getting $4M easier to swallow. |

Like I’ve said from the beginning just make Ruhwedel a full time player in JJs spot. |

The visual perception of his struggles could help them get him on a lower contract considering all of his underlying numbers are nearly the same as last year.
I think he’s been fine. The one thing I am a little concerned about, he has been the most hit player in the NHL. I can’t remember what broadcast I was watching that said that but apparently he gets lit up in the forecheck. I wonder if he is holding onto pucks too long or if he’s just not getting to the dump ins quick enough to move them before the forecheck gets in. - j.boyd919
I think Errey said that during the Detroit game. He definitely needs to speed up his decisions. That's where I see him struggle the most.
He's a tall guy but it looks like his stick is too long for him. It takes him a bit to corral and control the puck. When he does he seems really weak. Good for defending not really great for playing in tight space. |

I could see a 3-3.5 contract since I think (hope) they would price him under dumo. Either way I wouldn’t be upset as he’s young and still learning and for the most part playing pretty well. I was surprised his charts are as good as they were as I thought he was failing my eye test. In a game there are so many mistakes by every single player that once you have that pre conceived idea you hone in on them and either want to lynch them or exonerate them, depending on who they are. Mm, jj, letang, malkin, Simon, zar. I def don’t dislike petts but I was guilty of thinking he was struggling a bit this year. |

I of course would like JR to sign all their RFA's for as much of a bargain as possible, but you can't compare what he will sign to what any other player has years ago. Dumo's contract was signed when the market dictated another price. Pettersson could very well make right around Dumo, but again, you need to compare against the market, not older contracts. |

One thing I really don’t believe is that nhl wingers and defense can’t play their offside. They rotate constantly during play anyway. |

Not as difficult for wingers as it is D men. Some wingers prefer it.
Letang looks pretty average on his off side and he's our most skilled defender. |

I think it's more relevant with defensemen than it is wingers. With wingers the idea is that they're in better passing position to play their natural side, but for defenseman it can really affect their position on where they're used to playing.
I know Gudbranson is a poor example because of the level of player he is, but I was happy with how he played for the Pens. However, he instantly became a disaster when he got moved to LD. Obviously the argument is a better dman could transition easier, but we're talking about 3rd pairing guys so I think you really want to make sure they're playing their natural side.
I've always been happy with Ruhwedel and think he'd be a fine permanent RD depending on how the rest of the pairs land. |

Even if they line up on their prefered side they still constantly follow the puck carrier behind the net constantly rotating. The days of letting the guy go behind the net and letting the other d man take over the battle have long passed. |

Staying on script for the season. 1 in 1 out.
Good to hear about Simon though.
Did anyone see the angle replay of that goal last night? He had next to nothing to shoot at. |

Hopefully the time off is enough time for Kahun and he only misses one game. |

Yah and people will need to understand that likely means 4 to 4.5 million per season. He is highly comparable in underlying numbers and production to Rasmus Andersson of Calgary who just signed for 4.55 per season over 6 years. If we go longer term and buy up UFA years you are looking at 4.5 mill. |

Murray has had a tough year, but good on Malkin for calling out the fans for taunting him early in the game. I think he deserves better than that. |

Simon plays tomorrow.
Kahun with a concussion. Will not play tomorrow. Not that any injury is good, but if had to be anything at least there’s a good possibility he’s back sooner rather than later. |

If anything the all star break is a good time to get injured, if that can be said. I hope he takes his tie though. That poop is nothing to mess with. |
