Millbury was openly mourning Flyers victory
- missingmike

Not a fan of his work, but can honestly say that Milbury doesn't care one way or the other who wins a game he broadcasts. Saw him before the game last night when I was getting ready to go on radio pregame with Jason Myrtetus. He mainly discussed his travel schedule and marveled at Jonesy's schedule. Likes the job Chuck and AV are doing.

Provy is not a PP1 player, many plays have died on his stick or him fumbling a puck.
- ClaudeFather

He's doing a lot better this year, but being the only dman on the top PP unit is a very difficult job. I would not mind if they tried Sanheim on PP1 and put Provorov back with Niskanen on PP2.

I don't recall Elliott having to make any tough saves.
- PLindbergh31

The one on Rust was outstanding and a very tough save. Also made a tough one through traffic.

Last night's play by play (can't recall his name) is definitely the most palatable for me outside of the A-team trio.

Milbury's obvious biases calling any game are so annoying - and he rarely offers intelligent insight or at least funny quips. He's awful.

- GrittySauce

Gord Miller, one of the best in the business, did play-by-play last night.

I disagree. Even if his shot is a little worse, I think he is better at passing and receiving passes and is a little more composed under pressure.

I think Provy can turn into a decent PP qb but right now I think he is a big reason for the PPs overall struggles. And anyways it seems a change is needed because this current top unit just isnt working

- bulet13

Niskanen is the kind of player that just manages the puck on the PP. He doesn't make plays and he's not a big threat with his point shot.
I don't disagree that changes are needed but in my opinion not the one that you're suggesting.

It's really not. I could point you to different stats that show that he is not a good PP qb (yet) but I have a feeling you do not like to look past points as an indicator of success.

Each is entitled to their own opinion. I am not content with the struggles of the top unit and would like to see some changes made.

- bulet13

Please point me to those different stats. I'd like to see them. I have a feeling also but I'll reserve sharing that for now.

This is the player that Former Flyer Brandon Manning directed a racial slur towards.

How is Lovejoy even a professional television personality??

I don't think he completed a single sentence last night without tripping himself up.

- GrittySauce

With Roenick suspended they are scrambling to get warm bodies. Lovejoy was awful.

Yeah I recall the point blank one on Rust now. Elliott was good (obviously have to be to get a shutout), my point was the Flyers overall team defense and structure was as good as I've seen it in along time. They were the better team by a wide margin which yielded very little quality scoring chances to the opposition.

I specifically went to Penguins website, heard Sullivan and Crosby saying it was all about them not playing desperate etc... instead of giving the Flyers credit. I hate when teams don't give credit to the opposition.

Thanks, Bill!

Out of curiosity, do you think that Milbury's on-air persona is more of a characterization? While I certainly believe your account of him as a person, during most broadcasts he seems to usually paint one team in a better light than the other. Admittedly, maybe I'm just biased against him?

I think Rust did give credit. I think it was him anyway. First words out of his mouth if I'm remembering correctly.

I hate Crosby as much as the next fan, but did you see that between the legs back to the play pass to Rust that luckily Moose saved? That was almost magical! I still hate him. Was that a great defensive effort, or did the Pens just sorta mail it in last night? Either way I'm happy, but Crosby and Malkin were kept in check most of the game

I think he plays up the Mad Mike stuff a bit. But he is genuinely opinionated and stubborn.

I see some real chemistry developing between TK and JvR which could be huge for them coming down the stretch.

I also like Farabee a lot with Couts and Voracek.

The Flyers two top lines were dominating last night. If they can continue that they will have a strong shot at making the playoffs.

#5 and #6 D pair also improving every night. I’m sure they will have setbacks, but that pairing looks very good moving forward. I was ready to see them split up not too long ago but feel good about them now.

It's a combination. Flyers played pretty airtight D. Pens got outworked and never truly elevated their game.

Crosby is the best at a lot of things, plays in tight around the net and his back hand shot are still tops in the league imho.

Also how heavy he is on the puck. Lifting his stick is like lifting an anvil.

That play where the puck was in the crease and he was lying on top of Elliot trying to shovel the puck in, that’s almost always a goal for him, and it’s pretty amazing he does that stuff. The lady announcer (forgot her name, CJ?) said when he came to the bench he wasn’t down but more stunned it didn’t go in.

Provy seems to hesitate at times and you can tell he’s over thinking , or trying thinking ahead and a puck rolls over his stick. I’d give sanheim a shot. Not saying provy is awful but just not ideal pp1 QB for a long stretch

The plus side is that he'll rip it, and it usually gets through.

I’m really torn in whether I think acquiring Carter would be good. The Kings would have to retain 50% of his remaining salary to make it work at all. The Flyers would still have to clear a little more cap space. Most likely in a separate deal.

Carter is still a good 2 way center, good on faceoffs, shoot first guy, and a right shot who can PK. I think it really depends on if Patrick can be back because I think the team will be in a playoff spot before the deadline.

Always great placement too, something finds a hole or is very tippable
