So you are using Kevin Hayes as a comparable to say it's not too bad? We all know Kevin Hayes' contract was a shocking joke. - RogerRoeper
5.25M for Coyle is not too much. |

Because they quit on Babs.. They wouldn't quit on Keefe.
bunch of quitting quitters |

And he would have done the same as Babcock to start the year? Keefe is simply doing what Babcock should have done and he'd still be coach |

Too much and too long. Again, it's overpaying a supporting piece that's easily replaceable. But let's go nuts over Mitch Marner's cap hit...
People see 5.25 and think it's not a big deal next to 10.8. But yes it is because you don't pay that much for a guy like that. |

117 point pace under Keefe. - RogerRoeper
Phil Kessel is a 40 goal scorer
See how that works? Until it actually happens, it is imaginary. Just like Auston Matthews is now a 60 goal scorer... I hope he is, but he still has a long way to go |

There's a reason why all our stars' production is way up, more usage and smarter usage.
Keefe is getting results from just doing what any coach would do with this great lineup. |

Boston undid a lot of their good with contracts with that horrific Charlie Coyle deal. - RogerRoeper
To be fair ..B's are in win now mode. It's time to take a few risks.
Bergeron got paid. His $$ was 10.6% of the cap and he's getting paid until he's 37.
Marchand - Looks like a nice team friendly deal. 8.5% of the Cap when he signed. That's Nylander money. Definitely better value now but again he'll be 37 when it's finished.
Pasternak undersold himself. I don't blame him at all but in hindsight the whole world knows he's 1-2 milly light in the pocket. |

There were times under Babs when Marner and JT looked like bonkers. Same with Matthews, last year before injury he was in beast mode.
You can't get a good read yet and we need to see more. Other NHL teams haven't had time to adjust to our new system, especially in the offensive zone when our forwards go up high and the d-men come down low. It is really messy with the opponent. Do love Keefe's usage though! Soon the other teams will adjust to our system. Hopefully they wont adjust until we win the cup |

I really don't agree. What's the massive chasm between him and Kadri, that made Kadri's deal so fantastic, but Coyle's poop? .12pts a game?
Or are we going to discuss intangibles. |

He didn't really. His production soared after signing. He had worse numbers than Nylander.
That's like saying Nylander is worth 8+ after this year. It comes after his deal was signed. that's the entire point to signing young players. |

Kadri has 2 30 goal seasons, on his way to his 3rd. Coyle has hit 20 once...
All of kadri's numbers are just better,. |

Not using the talent was the issue do you not see that? It's easy to adjust to a Babcock Leafs team with all the stars playing less than they should, a deadly PP taken off after 40 seconds and opposition dictating how much and when our stars play due to line-matching obsession.
The Leafs had talent never that wasn't utilized.
Keep in mind as well Keefe has a what, 19-7-3 record with really bad goaltending. |

So you are saying that playing in the NHL at 18 and 19 is no different than 20? Because if we're going to compare years, we should compare them when they were of similar age. Last I recall, Nylander wasn't in the league at 18. But yeah, let's hold 96GP at 18 & 19 to the same standard of Nylander at 20 & 21. That makes perfect sense.
What a joke. |

"Undersold" meaning he was selling his next 6 years and sold for less.
Marner, Draisatl ...they fought for their believed value and got more than we believed they would at the time.
And the original post, and my reply, were all about hindsight. So you're not wrong ..but neither was I.

It's just tiresome hearing people trying to praise Coyle's deal when Dubas would be destroyed for it. It's overpaying a supporting piece. |

Marner and Draisaitl had better numbers. Marner had 94 points... Pasta could not ask for 8.5 or 10+ |

This is your rebuttal to Pasta's one good year compared to Nylander's two? That's what I thought, Roger. |
