I started this with the premise that perhaps Erik Karlsson had been tainted by his proximity to Matt Duchene, but the San Jose Sharks were still decent last year. It's obvious that Matt Duchene is a curse. The question is: Is he contagious?

On November 5, 2017 the Ottawa Senators traded Turris, Hammond, Bowers, a 1st and a 3rd round pick to Colorado and Nashville to acquire Matt Duchene.
Since this day, the Ottawa Senators have gone 69-110-21, for a .398 winning percentage, which is 31st in the NHL.

When the trade happened, the Senators were 6-3-5 (.607; 10th in the NHL). The previous season the Senators had been 44-28-10 (.598, which is 12th).

The team that traded Matt Duchene in 2016, the Avalanche, had been 22-56-4, which was good for dead last in the NHL with a .293 winning percentage. The next closest team was .421. That's d-e-a-d last.

Since the trade, the Avalanche have been 109-75-29; good for .580 which is 12th in the NHL. Matt Duchene is a curse.

During the time between the 3-way trade and the time that the Nashville Predators signed Matt Duchene as a Free Agent on July 1, 2019, the Predators enjoyed a 93-42-15 record, which was equivalent to .670 or 3rd overall in the NHL over this period.

Since signing Matt Duchene, Nashville is 23-19-7; a .541 percentage, good for 19th in the NHL - and I think on the decline.

Matt Duchene is a curse.

I bet "Duane" is one of Jack Eichel's other identities

The Leafs are not far removed from the same crazy nonsense off the ice and the on ice misery.

how quickly we forget what its like during the bad times...and now fans get furious when willy misses a back check and the sky is falling when they lose

Players will take less in Florida. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

As was proven by Sergei Bobrovsky's deal...

Stamkos went through something similar and seems to be alright.
- LeafGuy89

Forgive me if I'm wrong on this, but just googling it up, it doesn't look like similar injuries.

Stamkos broke his tibia, and he tore his lateral meniscus.

Lol that’s a lot of research.

The only blemish I can see is that helped the blue jackets defeat the best team in hockey in 4 straight in the playoffs.

But clb seems to be doing fine without him this year too.

And now Nashville isn't looking good. But they also have a very overrated team.

Duchene does seem to be a curse for whatever reason.

Please take one moment to imagine how this Leafs team would fare in the Norris division.

Probert vs. Nylander.

McRae vs. Dermott.

Twist vs. Dubas.

Nashville won't win with that group of forwardfs. And what Johnsson/Turris/Duchene are making vs producing is criminal
