I think evaluating someone off size is (frank)ing dumb

Size will help any D for sure....but you evaluate a player off talent.

Chara is not the best D in the world because he is 6' 9". He is where he is because of his size and skill.

Then you have Spurgeon who doesn't have the size but makes up for it for his incredible hockey sense and skill.

There aren't many D I would take Spurgeon over...Easily a top 15 D.

not disagreeing with the principle of what you are saying... but given the choice - and because durability is an issue - particularly in an 80game season followed by playoffs...

would you rather have Petrangelo or Spurgeon? would you rather have Paryako or Spurgeon?

here's the thing that I believe applies for/to the Leafs... they already have a few quick, smart and offensively capable d-men.... would they better upgrading the defense in the areas that a player like Chara represents... or would they be better adding a Spurgeon-like player?

I hope Dubas targets Demelo from Ottawa, fairly inexpensive contract, consistent and has pretty decent numbers on a fairly poor Ottawa team. If Dubas could land him, it wouldn't require much CAP management.

Then move Barrie to Vegas, Carolina, Vancouver, Calgary or Winnipeg, all teams who are likely looking to upgrade/add to their defense with an offensive defenseman.
