Don't want to be this guy....BUT....
There is a huge difference in "hits" and "intimidating" another team with hits.
Footnote: I am a guy that believes that the sport of hockey has a lot of unwritten rules that players grow up with....I don't think goons are in the future of hockey but Marchands and Thachuks are and SHOULD be a part of the sport.
That said, the Leafs have no balls, not really, in that way except Muzz and maybe one more guy...Holl, Hyman???
I did like to see Matthews stand up and get in the mix of the sh1tty Sandin hit last night.
Hockey still has muckers, it always should. It is the most brilliant part of the game. I'm always explaining it to the wife...this guy did this last game, this team always has our number........all the good story stuff that gets written behind the scenes every year and the whole "rivalry" thing is based on it. Besides talent, it is a part of the game too.
Not sure I agree with most of you or Dubas. The game is changing but if the NHL want US ratings and $ to grow the game...that stuff WILL stay and the Leafs need some.
If Dubas is good at his job, he should realize this and make sure the team isn't soft. Protect your assets with the right kind of toughness and say good bye to 1st round of the P/Os!!! - underhill14
Dubas ahs built a great team. The "Grit" stuff is riduculous. They are at a 117 point pace since the coaching change. |

Yup.
Soft enough to squeeze right into the win column on a regular basis.
Well, during the reg season. |

Cool.
The grit stuff is a little overblowing in the reg season.
But in the playoffs, it matters and its needed. |

I see no evidence they've ever lost in the playoffs because of "Grit". |

Just look at the Edmonton/Calgary game. The most talked about game all season.
But I feel duby is trying to win with fire power and speed. The past couple of years its worked great in the regular season, just hasnt turned out well in the playoffs so far.
That said, the guys are older, more experienced now and have a coach that seems to be willing to change things up to keep it entertaining. Not afraid to use guys more than usual.
So we'll see how this plays out in the playoffs (if they make it), could be different results.
Or the same.
Time will tell.
Fun team to watch. |

Blow it up!
Reading twitter is hilarious. People still think because of Matthews/Marner/Tavres' salaries Leafs have no depth. LOL. Most fans don't seem to be following the team at all.
And people are STILL saying Nylander is overpaid. LOL |

you fail to understand the difference between a team which consists of players with great individual skills and a team that is able to play to go far in the playoffs.
(and the 'outhitting' of the bruins in the playoffs series is such an awkward remark - everyone that has seen all 7 games of that series has to admit that Leafs were clearly not on the upperhand of the physical department, and leafs were intimidated for sure). |

hitting doesn't really matter until it does; as most guys deal with it.
gardiner caves-in from the pressure of it.
some guys just can't handle being hit. |

don't trade Lillybust.
He has a higher potential ceiling compared with Sandin.
Sandin will almost certainly be a 2nd line D-man, very solid - and very likely he'll be that.
Lillybust can eventually pan out as 'just' a #5-6 D, but has the potential to be true topline D.
While Sandin is the sure bet #3 D - Lillybust can actually pan out to be that topline D man (let's say a Keith Yandle with better defensive attributes).
You don't want to consider trading such a player before the age of 25/26. |

Unless the leafs get a deal they simply cannot refuse.
Keep both Robert sundin and tim littlegrin.
Gonna need some cheap talented players for the next few years. |

After playoffs lots of people will ask for Nylander to be traded.
He's just not a guy that wants to win at all cost. |

Well I guess our job is clear. We have to promote how great Sundin and Liljegren areso that we get said offer. I can't believe how tough these two are Leafs are so lucky to have them especially Liljegren. |

We'll see after the playoffs.
But.
You have to admit, Willie has been great the past several months. He's changed his play a bit, still floats, but is less of perimeter player like the previous years.
Goes to net, takes great shots....he actually chases down pucks.
Whether you like him or not. You have to agree to the above.
Will get 30/70 this year. That's great! |
