you need to stop focusing on what the penguins D was not or what was wrong with them. what they were, was for the most part big and experienced. those were the 2 advantages they had.

Mostly shyte even with Letang thrown in there. NHL playoffs are difficult to predict and hindsight usually leads to conclusions about how good or bad players/teams are when it counts. One of the things that is not talked about is how the officiating is significantly different in the playoffs than in the regular season. What may have been a penalty in the season magically becomes a great defensive play in the playoffs. Officials will never miss a delay of game penalty for flipping the puck over the glass but the other stuff .... rather inconsistent at the very least.

They had some pretty deep playoff runs. One cup final as well....there is a lot of parity in the NHL. The Rangers had the talent and it gave them some deep runs but at the end of the day they just missed it.

hyman is producing, mikheyev was producing well as well.
my point with Nylander is that he is two levels down from Matthews, Marner, Tavares.
Lots of players can get to points when playing with the right teammates.
In my opinion Nylander is like Guentzel in that he gets a lot of points because of being on lines and pp with superb teammates (unlike Guentzel in playing styles of course).
6.9million caphit is not a bad caphit for him, but a luxury leafs cannot afford since they can bring in other players (mikheyev, hyman, others) who can be on (almost) similar point production levels, while at 1/3rd or half of the caphit ánd bring other things to the team as well (PK skills etc.)

This is a pretty poor argument. Nylander is on pace for 39 goals and 74 points. He is the one making his line with Tavares work right now. You should watch the game without the lenses of hate for Nylander obscuring your focus. He already has 24. If you average everyone out to an 82 game season, Mikheyev is on pace for 17. Kerfoot is on pace for 14. Kapanen 16, Johnsson 16. Hyman would be at 36, but that's not his game, it's an anomally, but it would be wonderful if he could maintain it.

The only way you trade a 23 year old who can produce 35+ goals constantly is for a package that you can't turn down.
