Dubas: Hutchinson played well for the 4 games, and then on Monday night it switched within a 15 minute span. We could all feel it. He is a wonderful person, and hope that isn't lost. - PatC80
That goal where he fell over and let in a weak five hole was the nail on the coffin.
People talk about how the Leafs have to be at the top of their games in these important games well Hutch was no where near that.
You could tell Keefe was frustrated especially after the Florida game where Hutch was the worst player on the ice and you can’t have that from your goalie. |

So;
1) Clifford and Campbell - addresses goalie and grit issue and didn't cost a lot
2) Anderson is back on the ice skating
3) Ceci is "out for a while" with an ankle injury
Things are trending up - PatC80
as long as there is a better option.

I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic here, but I'm also not so sure Campbell solves the problem, per se.
The Leafs are a different team when Hutch is in net. Whether it's because they don't trust him, and as such somehow forget how to play defense, or whether it's that he has an inability to manage the puck and allows rebounds that create HD chances that shouldn't have been there (this is my guess), I'm unsure . . . but on the same team with the same Defense:
Teams get an average of 7.71 High Danger Chances against Andersen / Game; they get an average of 10.06 against Hutchinson (only Broissoit has more HDSA / Game).
Teams get an average of 8.28 Medium Danger Chances against Andersen, and 8.84 against Hutch.
Teams get an average of 14.34 Low Danger chances against Andersen, and 12.2 against Hutch.
To put this into perspective, Andersen has a Goals Against Average of 2.87 and Hutch is 3.66. If Hutch had the type of play in front of him that Andersen receives, his GAA would be 3.14, and conversely, Andersen's would be 3.28.
If this team continues to play in front of Jack Campbell the way they have been playing in front of Hutchinson, Campbell will provide a very modest boost of a 3.64 GAA. Again, this assumes that an HD chance is an HD chance, and defenses are equivalently capable of managing the puck.
If you want a goalie that would make a difference with our porous defense, James Reimer would have actually have been a good choice; his style of play would lend to a 2.64 GAA in equivalent situations.
As I type that, I am forced to double check my math. - Monkeypunk
I honestly think they play different in front of Hutch because they are afraid to make a mistake.. Which causes them to over-think plays. That fear can lead to things going wrong quickly.
That Kreider goal, normally Holl wouldn't jump into the play right off the face off at centre ice.. I think he felt that if he doesn't get to it first, then the Rangers will score.

Agreed. They played so well defensively and dominated Florida, yet they lose the game.. Dubas has to feel like if it was Andersen they win the game easily |

I too, find it more likely that they play poorly in front of him because he sucks, instead of he sucks because they play poorly in front of him |

Yup your goalie has to make a save.
They put a lot of belief in him and they messed up. Hutch should do well on the Marlies maybe he can help out Woll. |

That soft wrister from the blueline in the FLA game turned into a HDSC 3 feet from the net...That happens a lot with him and for a team that isn't the strongest defensively you are just asking for trouble.
Freddy is awesome at deflecting rebounds into safe zones and it is why they have so much more success with him in net. |

I think that's the case.. That feeling where you know if you make a mistake bad things are gonna happen, so you over-think, over-analyze every thing and forget to keep things simple. |

rebound control imo.
andersen is great at it. swallowing up pucks or directing them into corners or out of play.
hutch can't catch. he leaves a lot of garbage out there in front of the net. looked like a rookie with that nice pass to psysk in front of the net the other night.

hard to believe they go with Sandin/Lil bottom pair...Not a good idea at all.
Not many options really.
Marinez was talked about being involved in the Cmapbell/Clifford trade but the cap didn't make sense for next year. |
