I think he worked around the question pretty well though...Kings can only retain 2 contracts a season.

Likely that Dubas would want some money off Martinez as well but since they couldn't there wasn't much of an option.

Realistically - he's making $11m until 2027 when he's 37. I don't think there's anyone who wants to pay that. If LA wants to eat half of that salary for 7 years, @ $5.5m (or even nearly half to keep him around $6.5 or $7m), we'd still be giving up Nylander+.

That all said . . .I'm in love with how he used to play. Unmotivated or whatever . . . I'm not a fan of how he's played the last 2 years.

I think it is more important for guys 28 and beyond to play close to home. You start to have kids and want them to grow up with family.

a 20 year old? Yeah I think once they are drafted to a team they are pretty happy with anywhere. It is safe to say the NHL life is more fun for a 20 year old than a 32 year old.

Dubas makes it sound like the Leafs could have Rielly's full salary on LTIR the rest of the season, meaning they could use that money for a deadline acquisition. Depends how he progresses from injury.
