So without backreading, I assume consenus has been reached. All in agreement, yes?

So I'm biased? Perhaps - I'll admit it. Actually I fully admit it - stupid forwards! :-)

But "sometimes you need a save" is a BS excuse to cover for player mistakes (said the goalie lol).

It's like saying "sometimes you need a dman not to deflect the puck into his own net".

Generally every goal that is scored is as a result of multiple mistakes by multiple players including the goalie. There are perfect passes, and shots that are almost unstoppable but I'd estimate those are 10% of goals against.

It is what it is. We agree Ceci is terrible and not that I wish injury on anyone but him being out of the line up is a plus but his replacement is no better and I actually think worse than him.

Dubas needs to make a deal for D now.....AJ, or Kappy, Bracco, Timmy, one of them or a combo of them out for a good, solid shut down D man with term. Tough assignment but let's hope he can make it happen before prices go through the roof!

- Cush29

I have a feeling that Dubas wanted to wait until the deadline to kinda "see what we had" but these last 2 losses sting a lot.. I think he makes a trade for a D-man in less than 5 days.. Friday and Saturday nights will probably be a deciding factor.

In all seriousness, mistakes happen over the course of a game.. Every team makes mistakes, not just the Leafs. Sometimes, you need your goalie to bail you out. Hutchinson didn't inspire confidence.

- PatC80

Agree with this 100% and it showed the way they played in front of him. When teams have to start thinking about should I jump in and take this chance /pinch or whatever the risk is because in the back of their mind they are thinking if they miss it may cause an odd man rush and they have no confidence their goalie will stop it you are done.

They don't think that way when Freddy is in net, they did the entire time Hutch was and their play showed it. Then the overthinking happens, trying to do too much to compensate and down the rabbit hole you go.

I think Campbell will be fine and the cap hit managemable - it's "he's not the solution" comment that irks me. Sure, Halak would be awesome...what is he? $4M? It's not possible.
- Deeps27

Campbell is, and will be fine, I hope. Cap hit of $1.65M is affordable. Trading for Jack Campbell puts the chances of Woll being the starting goalie by 2021 at a 0%.. It probably crushes Max... That was his dream

I was hoping he had something brewing now and wouldn't wait to see how the weekend shakes out - not sure they can afford to but you may be bang on here.

Dillon from SJ looks like he would be a good fit, wonder what it would take to get him here?

agreed... I think the upcoming "move" - whatever is it will be telling.

Dubas may have to move one of his "guys"... to get what he needs.

It will be genuinely interesting to see if he has the "stones" to do what NEEDS to be done, rather than some "stop-gap" nonsense.

Dillon would be a good fit here as well, I wonder if SJ wants prospects or picks? Or both?

nothing wrong with acquiring Dillon at the "right price"... but Dillon doesn't solve a problem in the longer term.

the guy(s) you want to not see anymore are Ceci, Marincin and to a lesser degree Barrie (based on play in his own zone).... acquiring Dillon doesn't help the right side... I think Dubas is better off going for a guy who has played the right side (I don't care which way he shoots) as a priority.

I would hope they take a short a DeMelo from Ottawa or Severson(NJ) who might be a bit of a reclamation project.

at very least... either one of those guys pushes Ceci to the back burner.

who gets sat out when Rielly returns is another question entirely.

I would try to do players, no more picks. Package up a couple guys and hell throw in a Ceci or Marincin just for good measure.

If there is an upcoming move, and Dubas sticks to his belief, I don't think we are getting a rental defenseman.. I could see a money in-money out trade..

Johnsson and Kerfoot for Manson and Kase. Would be ideal.

I'd like to have both MM and Ceci either eating popcorn or with the Marlies if either/both are a part of the TML organization. Never anything more than that.

Hell if you are going to be ok with the types of mistakes those 2 make on a pretty regular basis might as well call up a couple kids and let them learn. Or Ben Harpur from the Marlies. Give us someone new to hate at least. lol

I do like the strategy or belief or whatever you want to call it of not grabbing rentals and getting guys with term. Rentals are for when you figure your seriously a top 3 or so team in the league and need a piece to get you the cup - nothing beyond that.

Dubas makes it sound like the Leafs could have Rielly's full salary on LTIR the rest of the season, meaning they could use that money for a deadline acquisition. Depends how he progresses from injury.

Might not have to get rid of ball and chain to add

- Santo_44

The Blackhawks did this with Kane one year when he was injured and then brought him back in the playoffs - unless I am wrong which is also possible.

i wouldn't pay much more than a 2nd and 4th for a #4 dmen rental.

if it's prospectors, my guess is anyone outside of bracco, loljegren and robertson are fair game.
