The Leafs are among the +27 teams that inquired today about the Sharks Brendon Dillon. San Jose needs a lot to move him. A top prospect like Sandin, multiple draft picks including at least one 1st and a top 6 cost conrolled winger like Kapanen would be the minimum. Price is going up hourly. Leafs may need to strike now while they can still get him at a discount. - Tumbleweed

You could say that about every guy in Jersey, and probably 6% of the women, too. - Monkeypunk
There is a lot of talk about the Devils moving Subban.. We know the Leafs had interest in the summer, but Nashville didn't want to retain salary.
Maybe NJ will?
Plus, I think the Devils would rather have prospects/roster players and not draft picks..

Why is it the 'Leafs insider' is always talking trading the farm for a normy or offer sheets against he Leafs or over the top contracts to Leaf FAs? Dreger is nuts. |

once again Dreger clearly indicating he's completely out to lunch.

Like the trade. Both guys are guys I wanted ion the Leafs.
The only concern with it is the trading away of picks and the UFA walk aways will eventually catch up to the club if they don't get some return at some point on those assets.
At this point I think Sandin has shown he's getting better quickly and defensively he is eclipsing Barrie already. With that being the case Barrie's value becomes basically PP only on the Leafs as they have so many guys that contribute to the offence, it might be wise to let him go and get a 1st or a prospect back in return to keep the train rolling.
Don't want to end up with zero picks or prospects in 3 years because they went for it too hard. - aminnes
I have to say this every time you bring it up. It's like a Pavlovian response: Teams who are going for it don't trade their UFA players unless the UFA player has no real value to the team's potential in the playoffs.
That said, I agree that after this year they need to start keeping their 1sts and ensuring that they rebuild the cupboard with some quality assets. Without those guys, it's much harder to fill your 3 & 4 lines with affordable yet talented players.
We may have gotten lucky drafting late with Sandin, and to a greater extend, Robertson. But you can't rely on trying to land on a late round Zetterberg to solve your problems!
The young prospects both represent the ability to fill the roster at a low cost, or they are assets that can be used to fill a more obvious need. Either way, you need that flexibility. |

I know Kase and Manson would cost a lot and that the Ducks would probably want picks and prospects if they want to rebuild.. Just saying, it would be nice to get those two guys.

I know, I was kidding . . you know about how awful New Jersey is. It's not funny if I have to explain it, Pat.
I think Subban wants out. I think Shero wants Subban out. How badly is the $5m question. |

Me: I wish the Leafs had Manson and Kase.
Random Ducks fan: Typical Leafs homer, Kase is better than Mitch Marner.. |

I thought your joke was that 6% of the population of New Jersey was female.
That number seems a little high |

It was more meant that 6% of the females would identify as guys.
I'm not sure how to do gender identity humour. |

Oh yeah. It's hard to think of Tom Fitzgerald, General Manager. I was so used to thinking of him as just a bad hockey player. |

Barrie is not a need on the Leafs though. They can score no problem without him therefore he is expendable and therefore he is one UFA that even in a go for it year they should have no problem dealing. |

Right now, he is a need... Rielly is out, and to a lesser extent so is Ceci..We need Barrie for the PP.
Matthews-Tavares-Marner-Nylander-Barrie are working well. |
