Right now, he is a need... Rielly is out, and to a lesser extent so is Ceci..We need Barrie for the PP.

Matthews-Tavares-Marner-Nylander-Barrie are working well.

- PatC80

Agreed that it looks good, but there are a slew of options on the PP for the Leafs. And it doesn't have to be a d man either.

Barrie is not a need on the Leafs though. They can score no problem without him therefore he is expendable and therefore he is one UFA that even in a go for it year they should have no problem dealing.

Barrie @ $2.75m would bring in all sorts of future value.

That said, in the last 30 games, since Keefe took over, Barrie has the 4th most D-Man 5v5 points, and the 8th most overall. That's production that is hard to replace considering that we don't know how well Rielly will return from injury.

I hate his decision making skills, too. I hate how he couldn't beat a 9 year old tied up in a skipping rope if he was battling for a puck with him. I hate how easily he is displaced in front of the net, and how easily his stick is lifted at crucial defensive moments.

But he is a play driver from the backend that we don't have otherwise. We honestly can't afford to trade him until we have another option that can provide the same level of offense from the back-end.

We need the value now, and there's simply no equivalence @ $2.75m.

They have puck movers. Sandin already is as good as Barrie in that regard. Get a 1st back. He is overrated. Argree to disagree on this one.

I'm going to disagree about agreeing to disagree because I have to say:

Sandin has faced bottom tier competition and done very well. He has yet to face top competition and is absolutely not ready. Feeling that we could trade a veteran defenseman - even one who doesn't really identify with "defense" - so we can throw in a 19 year old who has never faced top 6 competition will get him flayed alive - not only in performance, but also in this media mad city.

You just said in your previous post he sucks defensively. And he does. Then you said his value is in his offence, which they have more than enough of. But hey, another UFA walks and more draft picks gone. It will catch up them, make no mistake. And also keep in mind they aren't letting this happen in a year where they are the favourite either. It's massive uphill climb just to win a round right now, so again. Agree to disagree.

You could be right, but I'll still believe Dubas.. I think Klye Dubas might know more about what was discussed between Kyle Dubas and Rob Blake.

The Leafs are among the +27 teams that inquired today about the Sharks Brendon Dillon. San Jose needs a lot to move him. A top prospect like Sandin, multiple draft picks including at least one 1st and a top 6 cost conrolled winger like Kapanen would be the minimum. Price is going up hourly. Leafs may need to strike now while they can still get him at a discount.

- Tumbleweed

Not a chance they get that for him.

It really is hysterical. I had to look up who the (frank) Brenden Dillon is. He plays 4th or 5th Dman minutes, scores 20 points per year, and is almost 30 years old.

Sandin, Kapananen and a 1st! Make it happen Dumbass!
