You cant let all of the good ones go and wait years
to try and replace. Their time is now before JT needs a walker. - annoyed
Anyone available is not good enough because [insert reason]. |

They also can't sign guys long term when the results are still bad and expect anything to change or improve as they get older.
I don't think they need to wait years, they just need to go in a different direction because Muzzin and Barrie aren't getting it done today and they will cost too much to keep tomorrow.

He's slow on a team that plays track meet hockey. He gives the puck away too much on a team that lives and dies by the stretch passes. Do you watch the games? Doesn't seem like it.
Muzzin, at 24-29 and 3-4 million dollars a year, is a good depth defensemen. Muzzin at 30-35 and 6 million dollars a year is a stupid decision. - JohnFergusonJr
Last year he had a rough start in giveaways i think, but hes given the puck away less then Doughty this year. π€·πΌββοΈ |

Wow. He just might turn into a great NHL'er if his play translates to the NHL. Definitely promising. Looking like a steal. - Thecakeisalie
The last person to have higher than a GPG in the last decade is DeBrincat. He seems to be doing well as a smaller guy in the NHL. |

If Dubas is willing to trade down in drafts to get more picks, he should be willing to trade pending UFAs for assets and then use those assets to bring in new defensemen.
It's almost like a 3-way deal.
Muzzin / Barrie ---> picks and prospects ---> new cost effective top-four D.
Nylander + (one of) Kerfoot / Johnsson / Kapanen ---> #1 RHD |

Need a plan, ill trust the brass for now.
Different direction sounds rudderless.
Hopefully we can keep Muzz at the right contract. IMO |

He missed a bunch of games and still leads the Leafs in giveaways.
And he's a stay at home defenseman. That means it's not his job to pass the puck as often. And yet he still gives it away.
Doughty plays 5 more minutes a game on a terrible team and his job is to move the puck so it's natural he's going to give the puck away more.
Pretend there's a QB who makes 500 passes and another one who makes 100 passes but they both have 10 INTs. Who's the better passer? |

65 giveaways and 13 takeaways for Doughty. We should trade Nylander for that and his 11m cap hit. |

Current direction is rudderless. They're not in the playoffs and if they do make them, it's a wild card spot. They've gone backwards, despite all the "wonderful" changes they've made. |

41 is yet another shorthanded goal.
So glad the Leafs wasted a 2nd round pick on him. - GreatGigInTheSky

You also have no clue what Muzzin will sign for, dollars or term. None of us do. That's likely why Dubas is supposedly already talking to him and his agent. So he can see if they can agree to a deal that works for both parties.
You also act like you know that he's guaranteed to decline in play in the next few years, yet are certain Doughty won't. Quit acting like you're Nostradamus. |

Who?
Nobodys trading a young stud, the new cost effective top four would be in your bad books after 30 games and it would start all over

Muzz is awesome with the puck most of the time, sure hes not the fleetest but oh well. His analtycs read nice for the most, and my eyes approve.

He's a pending UFA. You think he's going to come cheap? I doubt it. Same with Barrie. These guys don't get 100 chances to cash in big, especially the mid level guys.
Anything over 4 million is overpayment.

I think Bobby Mac mentioned that he would be a top 10 pick if he was in this draft.
He was the youngest player in last draft and only made the cutoff by like four days.
If he keeps developing he could be a good top six forward.
Just a great pick all around.
