Not if Ceci is on LTIR. The entire salary is put on TLIR until they return. But if they return only in the playoffs it's irrelevant. You can be over. - RogerRoeper

hate to bring the message to you guys, but Campbell isn't that much of an upgrade over Hutchinson; he's just marginally better. - MaximusAurelius
I'm not sure if that matters per se - Campbell has at least recently been a legitimate NHL Backup goalie. Hutchison hasn't really had that stigma in 3 years. Obviously capability and intelligence are the key factors for success, however goaltending is also so much about confidence. I think Hutch was just done - at least here.
Campbell has been poor on High Danger / Inside Slot chances this year, but last year he was light's out which hopefully implies he _can_ do it. A new environment - and certainly not carrying the baggage Hutch is carrying - could be a positive change - in particular for the team surrounding the goalie.
I mean, really if you look at any season where they have more than a 20 game sample, Hutchison has posted .914, .907, and .904 save percentages (that was in descending order from 2014-2017). Campbell has only last season and this season @ .928 and .900.

I heard they're hiring Tonya Harding as a "skating consultant" and for some reason, they are also buying her a bag of crowbars. |

How did you come to this conclusion? On what basis did you make the evaluation on? When it comes to goalies, id like think a .916 vs .905 sv pct is more than just a marginal difference. |

It most certainly is.
If your backup plays 30 games, we can assume that's a ballpark of 900 shots. .916 vs .905 is a difference of about 10 goals. 10 goals in 30 games translates to maybe 5 wins? Who knows, all hypothetical. But 10 points int he standings is not small at all. |

For who? - Steven_Seagull
Who would you suggest is logically available (or could be) and fills the Leafs need?
I say Doughty because logically he should be available and meets the criteria of what the Leafs actually need.
But in general, if we are talking about "pure assets to acquire a #1 RHD", they should be enough to at least begin the conversation with another team. |

Campbell, meanwhile, has faced significantly easier shots on average, with less pre-shot movement to deal with as well. Of the three goaltenders, he has the highest expected save percentage in all situations based on the locations of the shots he faces at .913, so he has drastically underperformed expectations this year, entirely due to that woeful .675 save percentage from the inner slot.
Struggling only from one area that also happens to have the smallest sample size could mean Campbell has a good chance to recover. But if we imagine that he maintains his performance from this season, and the Leafs play in front of him exactly as they have in front of Hutchinson, Campbell’s save percentage would be about .889, barely ahead of Hutchinson’s.
With two more seasons on his contract after this one, and a pretty solid 2018-19 to look back on, I still like this bet for the Leafs. But I don’t think this move is a guaranteed tonic to what ails them. |
