He might as well have been.
He did briefly fiddle with a couple pucks that came near him.

Good in that we got a better goalie
Good in that we gave up no roster player
Bad in that we've yet to make it past the 1st round, aren't in a playoff spot and seem to be shipping draft picks out often.
But i feel its way too early to tell, gotta see how these two help the team first.

Watching the Oilers-Coyotes game the other night.
They showed a speed up video of Kessels entire pre game warmup.
He got on the ice and literally leaned on the bench talking to a trainer for the entire warmup then back to the dressing room.
I thought that was neat. - robin_steele264
I honestly believe that Kessel could have been a generational talent on a similar level as Crosby if he gave a sh!t.
I swear, the guy barely works out and eats like sh!t...and then jumps on the ice and scores two goals. If he actually prepared for games the way Crosby does... |

The traditional way you get a backup is sign them in the off season, or grab them on waivers. That is free and doesn’t cost you a draft pick... |

Slow down.
Pull the koolaid away from your mouth.
Clifford is a 4th liner, who could fill on the 3rd line.
No team with cup aspirations will ever have him on the 2nd.
Lol
Lets not overhype Clifford simply because the leafs picked him up. - Fakepartofme
Well said... he couldn’t even play on Kings 2nd line... |

I think we need to find a better way of evaluating - not that we outplayed the Rangers last night - but more attempts but less shots - same scoring chances and same high danger chances.

Yeah he is really starting to suck now.
I heard he’s a beast in the gym though... strong as an ox.
But yeah, he is one laid back fella. |

ok...What's your point?
That they shouldn't have made the trade? Or that they should go back in time and sign a goalie in the off season?

If you did Clifford for Moore, you'd probably have to add on the Clifford side to make it fair. So something like Kyle Clifford + 4th for Trevor Moore. I believe that Moore can be a third liner, and has proven he can play there effectively in the past - at least in terms of not being over matched by his competition (like he was when they inserted him anywhere in the top 6).
I was pretty high on Campbell before he failed to reach the NHL repeatedly. That said, compared to Quick, he's been better (he's .915 at EV; Quick is .908. He has a GSAA of 1.99 at EV; Quick is -1.99 -- last year, Cambpell was .934 at EV; Quick was .899. Campbell had a GSAA of 11.34 to Quick's -19.37(!!)).
Edit: While it's not apples to apples, since Hutch is behind Toronto's defense - last year he was .910 and -1.86; this year he is .894 and -5.51. So Campbell should be a noticeable improvement.
If you're trying to get Jack Campbell out of LA, he has to have a value that's more than just a second round pick, but probably not as high as a first. Maybe you'd argue that it's as good as a 2nd and a 4th.
So maybe there's a marginal overpayment here, but it's not by much.

seems like a decent trade.
the 2 forwards seem like a bit of a wash.....so essentially a couple of 3rd rd picks to see if Campbell is better than Hutch. He doesn't have nearly enough NHL games to say for sure, and the experience he does have is in front of a pretty crappy team.
if he turns out to be good, then win for you......if not, you lost a couple of mid-round picks. not great, but not the end of the world - sensarmy_11
Clifford should address some of the Grit and toughness fans have been after.
this season Clifford has been better than Moore by a decent margin.
Moore should be a fine peice for LA.
I think both teams get what they need now |

I played a game of ball hockey with him back when he was still a Maple Leafs player.
The guy doesn't take good care of himself..... If you didn't know him, you wouldn't believe he was a professional athlete.
Imagine how talented he must be to overcompensate that and still play at a high level all these years.
It's crazy. |

I meant more in a sense that the Leafs are desperate, need to get a win.
Rags are not going to make it.
With a game thats close or leaning a bit your way at least get a point and a shot at 2 |

It happens, to all teams.
I thought the leafs were gonna tie it up until with an empty net willi dumped the puck to no one onstead of passing, resulting in an easy turn over and the 5th goal. |
