Pierre LeBrun:
Rangers GM Jeff Gorton and Chris Kreider’s agent Matt Keator expected to finally talk over next fewdays. Can both sides find common ground on a new contract or does it cement the decision to trade him? That plus other items coming up on Insider Trading this evening @DarrenDreger
My view, as Brooks wrote, unsure why this conversation didn’t start at least a month ago. Will see if enough time to hammer out an agreement if one is even possible

Probably cause they wanted to see how he would play. Why would the organization pay out on a contract and hamstring themselves if he was playing like dog crap.

You can have conversations, doesn't mean you are signing anything. But can at least know the parameters of what Kreider wants.

True, but probably way more than the organization is willing to pay. Agents always start ridiculously high and unfortunately Kreider is at the point of his career where he can command an overpriced contract. I hope he really loves NY and gives the team a discount, because if its between signing Kreider and having to get rid of Tony D, I'm in the camp of keeping Tony if those are the options. Kreider is older and easier to replace

I don't think Kreider will be easy to replace, but I do think it is better asset management to choose Tony over CK20 if we can only keep one.

Yeah, thats what I meant, not that Kreider is easy to replace but Tony would be way more difficult. Tony is 24, first season he isn't getting jerked around and is 5th in points for all defenseman.

Tough choice to make with Kreider's leadership, being fluent in Russkie and continuity in a lineup that is in flux, however, ADA is getting his crap together and looking like a franchise D.
If we can find a way to keep both I'm all for it, but I think Kreids is going to price himself out our cap room, which is unfortunate thanks to unfortunate signings like Smith and (frank)ing Skjei. As streaky as he is, he deserves to get paid, really hoping we get a nice haul for him.

Well, if we are going to sign Kreider to an extension, I would expect to see some prior trades to clear salary cap space. We have seen just last year that other teams will use the leverage of the salary cap to minimize our return in trades. We don't want to go down that road again.
Personally, unless the crazy rumors about Hank prove to be true and we can move him, I think Kreider is a goner...
Nice to hear talk on Krieds contract, next is capt. ..He's staying 4 sure
Right side :Trouba Fox A dA is staying put as well ,at least till july `1` when Trouba NMC kicks in like Stepans was gonna ,do we entertain possibles & let Fox take #1 right side next yr OR get him a top left D partner (Byfuglin) ,Maybe its what will get him to stay on top not be erratic , I M O Must get him a top dominate partner , he will flourish & fill the top right slot next 5 yr s ...other wise we have Lundqvist in the plan next year at 20 yr s old
Big Dustin: you have to take a shot at him, instant upgrade from where we are & will be ... Sklei may go in a trade to upgrade wing or exp. draft
As i have read , as is we can sign Kireds ,A dA Strome with out blowing the cap ,I am sure thats a real plan for team , its how to build a 4th line & find that top 6 winger using Buchny Sklei Howden Hijak ... prospects & picks
Larry Brooks does bring up an interesting point in his article...like what happened to Stepan, Trouba's No trade clause doesn't kick in till July 1st. If the Rangers feel Adam Fox is the top pair RH d man of the future, and you want to keep ADA and envision Nils Lundqvist filling out the other spot...do you look to see what trade offers are out there? Not saying I would trade Trouba cause his physical element is needed but it is interesting. His 8 million cap hit is pretty high.

It was highly publicized that Trouba signed here specifically for his fiance to go to NY hospitals to complete her schooling. If we trade him now, that will create a TERRIBLE optic for future free agents looking to sign here. While I would rarely use the word impossible, I think its simply not an option to trade Trouba.
