Well the Rangers are going to have to meet the criteria and expose someone that meets the requirements. For a goalie, they are:

* One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list.

Hank's contract will be off the books. As it stands now, Georgiev will be a pending RFA that they'll have to qualify if they're going to expose him. Shesterkin is exempt.

You could give Georgiev a NMC which means he'd automatically be protected, but then you're going to have to go out and sign a third goaltender that would be eligible to be exposed, since Shesterkin is exempt.

It has to be a two year deal, because they need to be under contract for 2021-22 season and the expansion draft is in June 2021, which is before UFA 2021 on July 1st.

Or a midseason signing, I guess. I don't know if there's any rules against just signing someone towards the end of the season the year before the expansion draft for no reason other than to expose them. Not sure there is, but it's possible.
