I'm starting to think that this team will never go deep into the playoffs with the work ethic of Draisaitl. Yes, he can score points, but his little mini vacations during the game are costing us many goals against. 3 goals tonight all his fault because of laziness. |

Are you referring to the three Meier goals? Because if that's the case, I think you're seeing what you want to see on those GA.
The third Meier goal, he absolutely lost his man and should've had him covered but it's not like he Ovi'd. There's a difference between giving up on the play and being beaten. Even the best players get beaten.
The second Meier goal was more a matter of the Dman losing his stick and being unable to defend Meier in a semi-dangerous spot. Wingers are typically the Ds responsibility, after all. You can bemoan him not recognizing that danger fast enough and covering Meier, but over-committing to "double check" potentially leaves a trailer open. Lastly, that's a goal Mikko should've had if he had his angle.
As for the first Meier goal, I fail to see how that's his fault in ANY respect. It was a tip off a point shot from the opposing side of the ice from the man he was covering (Dillon).
Don't let bias cloud your assessments. |

There are just certain sections of this fanbase that will always be reaching....I personally think it was just a bad overall effort minus a couple of guys

I mean, if I'm critiquing anyone for giving up on a GA, it's McDavid on the Noesen goal. Didn't tie up the stick of a guy at the side of the net when doing so would've been easy and prevented a goal. |

I'm actually biased the other way...I wouldn't trade or give up on Draisaitl. I'm just extremely annoyed with his lack of commitment to the defensive side of the game. It is also a matter of leadership. in a 4-2 game, with the Oilers putting on the pressure...THAT'S the Meier goal you are referring to where Drai just plain gave it to him. He didn't care, and it is a display of one of your leaders not caring. He simply cannot do that. (the polar opposite to this is Mark Messier cheering like a madman at a scored goal when down 5-1). This, all while Leon keeps saying publicly that he wants to model his game after Kopitar, Datsyuk..."I'd like to win the Selke one day".
I love the kid, I'm just annoyed with him mailing it in for a few shifts when points are important.
You're also correct about the Dmen, and it was usually Nurse last night. I also love Nurse and wouldn't trade him, but I find myself yelling in his direction quite a lot these days. I wish these kids would just give a damn.
