Have to give Lou credit for making the playoffs and winning a round after your superstar Center leaves the team as a UFA.
The age comment - not sure how that is relevant.
Roster quality is subjective.
And whether Dubas drafts better - let's give it a few years before making any statements on that.

Isles will never win squat with that roster. Too many aging grinders on bad deals.

It's hilarious Dubas got destroyed for signing a blue chip forward for 6.9 per in his prime years.

it's far from perfect.

his points are declining and the other team owns the puck when he is on the ice.

part of it is he plays on a poopty team. part of it he's not as good. What's the bigger problem?

even at a minimum of $4.5M for 2.5 years, i am not interested in him playing on the leafs to find out.

I can't believe he got 4 years and 3 million per after he looked finished his last year in Toronto. Jason Spezza makes 700K and is on a 1 years deal.

It's typically a bad idea to acquire a player who has no interest in playing for you.

The Leafs management group have done a good job of trying to find places for players who they don't have a place for (Leivo, trying to find a taker for Petan, and so on). I'd also think the reason the salaries of the young guys are higher than we'd like is to ensure that through the duration of the contract, they still feel fairly compensated and remain happy.

Bringing in a malcontented player doesn't really fit with that idea.

In general this is true. But where has it been quoted by Manson he wouldn't come to the Leafs? Does he have a no trade list with the Leafs on it?
If the Ducks are willing to give him up in a trade he'll get over the move knowing his team didn't want him anymore.
I'm not saying the Ducks want to move him but Manson is not an untouchable piece of the future for them.

WE always hear guys won't come to Toronto but they do and never want to leave.

What has Lou done in Long Island that makes him so good? That roster is bad.
Dubas drafts better and isn't almost 80. Dubas understands you don't give 13 million to a 4th line.

While I agree that Lou is not a very good GM...anymore..or hasnt been for a long time.

he did 2 things in NY that have masked over the other bad things, hired a good coach and is able to somehow get high end goalies...all the time.

Also since the NYI has out preformed the Leafs standings wise (and playoffs), I think the better strategy is to wait it out.. instead of trying to convince some folks how the islanders are not in a great spot..or not a good as they seem to be

Lou fails to keep/get elite talent (Panarin/Tavres) but has proven he can get his hands on Leo Komorov for a drastic overpay.
