Wouldn’t you rather have a top 10 pick in 2021 than getting swept out of the first round of the playoffs?
- PrinceChill

I think Eichel leaving if we don’t make the playoffs next year will supersede that.

I wouldn't, rather make the playoffs and give these young players a taste of what it's like, would be huge for them.

Very impatient of you, Botts would be ashamed.

If he doesn't get this right in the next 7 months, probably won't be here anyway.

Galchenyuk stinks, 4th team now.
- SABRES 89

Gally might stink on the pens ....... but when compared to Johansson, larsson, erod, insert center name

He’s better than all of them.

The Sabres are better then their record indicates. Goaltending sunk this team or else we’d be in the thick of the playoff race. I have a hunch we’ll be looking at this year as a blessing in disguise a few years from now when we’re adding a stud on an ELC to a team that will be primed to compete.

This year for the Sabres is reminiscent of how the Bills were able to add an Ed Oliver last year before taking off this year. What’s going to resonate more with you a few years from now ? Having a potential Pro Bowl game wrecking talent on the d-line or the playoff loss in Houston ?

The Sabres have a great opportunity to add a game breaking forward while making the moves necessary in the offseason to make us a playoff team next year.

I’m very happy to be here.

- Pegullaville

Um, I agree about the goaltending but better than record? The forwards are crap besides Jack, Reinhart is a 2nd line forward on most teams; Olofsson has had a nice rookie season when in the lineup. Skinner? Whatever. The rest of the forwards besides Girgs who is a good 4th liner are meh. The D has been adequate and has a good foundation for the future but it hasn't been just the goaltending.

Addison is closer to Joker than Borgen.

We are still giving him 7 months eh?

Thought this board would be calling for his head by now.

I guess the Frolik trade really showed the kind of big team shakeup he can pull off.

The Dalton signing is what won me over.

That, and the Matthew Spencer for Devante Stephens earth-shatterer.

Tied for Goals for with the Isles, and have scored more goals than Columbus and Dallas. All 4 teams are all in the top percentile is reducing high danger chances and scoring chances for the most part. Their goalies make saves, ours don’t.

I’m not saying we should be happy at all with our offensive output, however our team defensive play would have given us a shot to make the playoffs if our goalies didn’t let in almost 25 more goals than expected over the course of the year.

It just feels like their goals for are inflated by the high scoring games in the first month of the season when the games don’t matter.

Really, you're trying too hard. We went into the season with two backup goalies on our roster and we get outshot like crazy. So yeah, we give up goals, but did anyone actually expect the goaltending to be good?

It's not like we have an established quality starter and he is having a bad year. Then you can point to goaltending as a problem. We have an awful team with two awful goalies. Most nights when we win, we get heavily outshot and Ullmark plays a great game. I have been a huge critic of Ullmark since even when the streak was going on, but bottom line is pointing out goaltending is meaningless. Our cheap, bad goalies played like cheap bad goalies. Both will probably be back next year.

That is cherry picking stat here, stat there to fit the narrative. The system Kreuger has instituted has helped to reduce the high scoring chances against because he knows our G is weak and Jack can't carry the load every game which helps to inflate the Sabres offensive stats every game. Take him out of the lineup and I hate to see the Sabres offensive stats. This team needs more than one line and the D shooting from the point.

We currently give up the 8th least High Danger scoring chances per game and we’ve given up itje 9th most goals in the NHL. I don’t see how that adds up do you ?

The analytics confirm the eye test offensively, we are as dull as it gets. We need to add offensive talent and score more goals, however we could have been fighting for a playoff spot this year with adequate goaltending and better injury luck because we defend well. It seems to be working for Columbus, Dallas, and the Islanders.

How do you think the Penguins won the most games in the league from the time Crosby went down till when he came back ? They allow the 6th least most HDCA per game and have allowed the 5th least amount of goals this year NHL wide. They are an elite defensive team also, except Jarry can stop a beach ball and they have the luxury of having 2 Elite Centers and we have 1.

I agree with your general take, but our goaltending is doing about what you'd expect. It's a below average duo, and they were due for an injury after starting every game for a season and a half.

The issue is Ullmark would be fine if he was able to start 3 out of 5 and Hutton could do 2 out of 5. Ullmark needing to start damn near every game because Hutton turned into a sieve wasn’t in the original plans.
