What about... Drury AND Briere brought back to be Co-Presidents of Hockey Ops??
Drury is AGM for Rangers
Briere is running Philly’s ECHL team in Maine
Do they have enough “management” experience?
Idk...
but idk how much Sakic or Shanahan had either? - jdfitz77
Drury, no chance |

Well then the big ? Is would we be a better hockey team with 2 more players producing at a 50 60 point range, then 1 player who isn't doing poop right know. - Buff36
Skinner scored 40 goals last year, and is doing nothing this year, and we are on pace to finish in the same spot. The two things we haven’t addressed from last year. Goaltending and depth down the middle. However you want to interpret that is up to you. |

Nothing because you’ve gone in every different direction possible.
You think Skinner is average. You also think that a team who’s acquired guys like Sheary and Vesey can “easily” replace a guy who’s averaged 30 goals per season over an 8 year career. - sbroads24
Sheary and Vesey will produce with a a Top 6 C that holds his water. One we could fit under our salary cap with an additional $9M. |

So let's say in alternate universe, instead of skinner, they signed Hayes who was a tick over 7 million over 7 years.

And Skinner can score 40 goals with a good center. He also scored 37 with a bad one previously.
Any which way you slice it, comparing Skinner to the Shesry’s and Vesey’s is just hilarious |

Our scrumbag failure of a RW; Samson Reinhart, playing at 0.82 PPG is currently 14th in the league in that category for players who have 25+ games played...projecting to 67 pts over 82 games.
This scumbag is having a season:
- eerily similar to David Pastrnak's 70 pt. season when he signed his current 6 year contract at 8.9% of the then current Cap Ceiling
- 10% better than William Nylander's 61 pt. season when he signed his current 6 year contract at 8.8% of the then current Cap Ceiling.
At 8.85% of say $83.0m of next season Cap Ceiling, Sam would be due a contract of $7.35m...all things being equal. They're not:
-Sam is Arb Elligible (see ERod for potential impact of player taking team to it), team won't due it nor want it, Sam has more leverage here
-A 6 year contract term will include 3 years of UFA status, which inflate the AVV for said contract.
* what is an reasonable uplift ? $1.0m more for each of those 3 years?...$3m / 6 years = ~$0.5m per year?
Reasonable to assume $7.35 - $7.85 over 6 years. - IonSabres
You can grab some different numbers and different players and argue 5.4-6m over 5 years. Teravainen is the best comp out there.

Vesey is on pace for 27 and had 35 the year before. I’d say he gets 35 points again playing the whole year with a Center worth a poop.
Sheary is on pace for 29. I’d say he gets 35-37 points as well.
Mojo is on pace for 34 points over 75 games. I’d say he gets 40-45 back on the wing playing with a Center.

It’s all marginal revenue dude. It’s production per cap hit. We are paying what $6M per year for that additional production over the Vesey’s and Sheary’s ?
For what an extra 10 points ? |

I just said to bet the over on Laine scoring 30+ due to the fact his PP production was completely over sold due to his career averages. Not even two hours later the pots a Hatty all on the man advantage.

He’s not a top 15 winger though. So basically they could take the 7.5 mil they pay him, give it to Sheary and Vesey, and they’d be exactly the same in the standings |

I could argue that both of the two long term contracts botts gave out here were around $1.5-2m aav heavy.
Skinner is a 7m player, ala evander kane. Let’s even say 7.5m per over 7 years max to anyone else. That’s 52.5m total, botts gave him 72m. That’s unreal.
Eichel should’ve been locked up at around 8-8.5m aav as well.
Here come the posts about how eichel is now worth all of his 10m cap hit and I would agree, now. I will also point at The MacKinnon and draisaitl contracts for comparison and easily argue that eichel was overpaid.
In the year leading up to their contracts:
MacK:
52pts in 72games... contract year... 6.3m aav
Draisaitl:
77 in 82... contract year... 8.5m aav
Eichel:
57 in 61... contract year... 10m aav
There’s an outlier here. At the time I thought 8.5x8 for eichel should’ve been the max.
There’s around 3-4m per year extra that our supposed cap genius could’ve had to work with right now.
I can absolutely see him signing Sam for something ridiculous like $9x8 this year. If his pace stays the same he will end the year with more points than skinner has ever had in a season and be younger too. The writing is on the wall. How could he possibly risk losing him though? |

The difference is Skinner was about to go to UFA. Reinhart you are still under team control for at least 2 years.
Reinhart on the open market easily gets 7.5-8 per.
I think 9 is out of the question.
I personally think he’s getting 6.75-7.25 |

He gave jack 10x8 as an Rfa w/o arb rights right after those two contracts I just posted were given out.
Kane had just got 7x7 as a UFA, SJ could have given him 8 years too. Botts gave skinner 9x8.
I’m just posting historical facts here. You want to think he’s going to give Sam <7.25. I sure hope so but Botts track record suggests otherwise. |

They could of drafted Dubois instead and saved a first rounder each of the past two years taking a crack at the Center position.

Would we have been better off signing say Nyquist, Donskoi, Connelly then signing Skinner at 9 mill. It's a interesting thought by Pegs. |
