I think Mayfield is a pretty good bottom 6 defender for his contract. He does get his nuts beat in but I have to give the kid credit he never backs down to anyone. - Cptmjl
the way Dobson is playing it will be interesting to see who sits when Pelech is finally back... my choise would be Mayfield. Pulock and Toews look pretty good together. If Dobson can be paired with Pelech in the not too distant future that puts Leddy and Johnny rocket as 3rd pairing. |

If Dobson keeps playing the way he is, he's not going to give Trotz the option to sit him. I'd like to see Trotz give him a little more responsibility soon, it really looks like he can handle it. He barely cleared 10 minutes last night, which I'm not complaining about and completely understand...but I think he is adapting pretty well. |

Barzal is having a real bad stretch of games. Mayfield always seems to be the token moron that gets twisted into taking retaliatory penalties. - Cptmjl
Brutal... he is just playing dumb. Trotz face when he took that penalty says it all... if he was skating instead of reaching around with his stick he doesn't end up tripping him... that whole line is just stationary in the D-zone. ..
second line really had a fantastic game. they were up against Backes and OV's line the whole game. OV was - 4 in the game and Backes was -3... very rare. |

Avs coach announces on his radio show that Nazem Kadri is out longish term. Avs spokesman tells me it's week to week for Kadri who was injured Sunday night. Colorado was already in the market for a top-9 F so this may add some urgency to it
Good news for the Isles game against COL a week from tomorrow. Not great news for the trade market. |

Thomas Hickey and Linus Soderstrom, both out since November, appear to be full participants in Sound Tigers practice today. Andrew Ladd, Matt Lorito, Nick Schilkey on in no-contact yellow. (Or maybe that's just their line color.) |

The Barzal line as a whole has been pretty bad. Lee has been hard to watch though Eberle has been good. They’ll turn it around eventually. This would be the right time for them to do it and overtake some teams and get some separation. Obvious, huge, game tonight. |

Well after I made the statement that I’m usually underwhelmed the last few years for what players go for at or around the TDL Pittsburgh overpays fairly significantly for Zucker last night and sets a crappy market for everyone.😂😂😂. |

Yeah that was kind of a lot for Zucker, but I don't think it was terrible. He's got three years left on that deal at a half mil more than Bailey costs. He's a good player. |

This was a good dive into Kase, who I still think would be an excellent target
https://www.tsn.ca/the-ca...ng-trade-target-1.1440536
Betting on a guy with a history of injuries is the ultimate risk/reward, and requires advanced scouting from both your hockey personnel and medical professionals. But the reward side is an intriguing one for a prospective buyer. Those injuries, largely, are the reason why his contract – he makes just $2.6 million per year on a deal that doesn’t expire until 2020-21 – is so attractive.
Plus, Kase has played quite well when he’s been in the Anaheim lineup. The winger has seven goals and 23 points in 49 games this season. Adjusting for usage, his 5-on-5 scoring is fifth-best on Anaheim (behind , , and ) and on par with Toronto’s , Florida’s and Calgary’s .
The scoring is nice, but Kase’s game really shines on the other side of the ice. Anaheim’s defensive numbers with Kase on the ice are impressively positive considering how bad the team is this season, and he is among the team leaders in Corsi%, Expected Goal%, and Scoring Chance%.
While a player like Kreider – again, probably the cream of the crop when it comes to trade options in two weeks – is measured almost exclusively in offensive production, Kase is a reliable two-way type. And when you start bringing in defensive measures, the two players appear rather close in production. (We will use Evolving Hockey’s Goals Above Replacement model to assess player contributions here for quick reference): |

Yeah and from a Pittsburgh perspective it does make sense. That first rounder isn't going to see the NHL for probably 4 years or so. Addison was probably one of their better prospects but still is a way off and may never even pan out.
To land Zucker for the next three seasons, plus this one, keeps them competitive while Crosby and Malkin are still top players. It's pretty logical for them. But when it all comes crashing down for Pittsburgh, it's going to crash and burn hard. Their system is more or less devoid of any talent now. |

Thats the point though, at some point you just have to keep going for it. When it burns down they will just rebuild like everyone else. Its almost impossible to be competitive every year for more than a decade. |

Yeah I know, I'm agreeing with it. When you have that kind of talent on the roster you're a threat every year. I'm sure the profitability, from a business standpoint, is much better when they're playing playoff games every year. But their rebuild, when it all finally ends, is going to make the Rangers' one look like a blip on the radar |

(frank) the pens first they land lemieux and jagr then Crosby and malkin I mean really 4 superstars that played together for years in their primes I hope that team gets the Corona virus and spends 2 weeks in quarantine |

I think like Chiefs said, when it all comes to a head, its going to be a long time before they are competitive again. Unless they trade for Hall and get 3 overall firsts in a row |
