If Dobson keeps playing the way he is, he's not going to give Trotz the option to sit him. I'd like to see Trotz give him a little more responsibility soon, it really looks like he can handle it. He barely cleared 10 minutes last night, which I'm not complaining about and completely understand...but I think he is adapting pretty well.

Having a hard time believing with where Dobson is at currently he pushes JB out of the line up. He on the PK unit and plays 20 Mins a night. As you said Dobson plays d10 Min. last night and is playing well in his limited role.Unless theres an injury or someone totally play like Shat, I will say Noah Dobson will be the 7th D man when Pelech comes back. The fact that when a game is on the line and defense is at a premium he doesn't touch the ice much.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if you see HB favorite Hickey up with the big club getting some playing time before Pelech comes back.

Have at it Girls club.

Never said it was Boychuk he'd be replacing

Also we don't even know if Pelech will be back at all this season

Back for PO's hopefully is the thought ( fingers crossed ), thought you said you wouldn't be surprised if JB was pushed out. If not my mistake.

Dobson plays shelter minutes. If Pelech is back for the playoffs, Dobson will watch from the pressbox unless he really steps in the next 2 months.

Totally agree. PO's are totally different games in themselves.. Asking a lot of a kid averaging 9 mins. per game currently in regular season never mind PO's.

If I were a betting man I'd probably say he'd be back at some point right before or during the 1st round. If I recall, the estimate on time he'd be out was "about four months" which is around the end of the 1st round.

My thought was more pertaining to next year, although I didn't really specify that. I do think it's possible he could push Boychuk out of that spot, but I have a hard time seeing the Isles stick a guy making $4M (in salary) in the press box full-time. I could see him pushing Mayfield out of the lineup next year, but that's a long way off and not something I'm saying that I am certain is going to happen.

Part of what I said was that I'd like to see how he fares with an increased role. It would be great to start seeing him get more minutes when they're playing a lesser opponent. I understand him playing low-minutes in a game against the Washington's and Tampa's of the league, that's fair. But when we play the Devils or the Wings, it would be great to see his ice time creep up around 15 minutes or so to see how he does with more ice time.

Eventually maybe next year, hopefully he’s pushing Boychuk and others to less ice time and eventually out of the line up. I agree he’s not close to that yet.

Gotcha and I hope he pushes Someone out next year. That’s a great problem to have. Honestly I think he has to bulk up a bit in the off season.
Also I don’t think how much someone makes determines whether they play or not under Lou and Trotz. Ladd’s ass is fermenting at BP with a 5.5 million dollar contract..You earn your ice time it’s all about accountability, Snow and Co are gone thanks God.

Fair point about the money. This team is certainly a meritocracy, no argument there.

I've just been very impressed with his play lately. He's not speedy like Leddy but his skating is so smooth and efficient. He reads the play well, he seems to pick his spots where he'll skate the puck up the ice and, if he's not doing that, seems to know when to look for a seam pass or when to just get it in deep and let the forwards go retrieve it. He'll have his rookie moments where the speed of the game forces an error on his part, but I feel like those have started to tail off since he's been in the lineup every night. I see no major weakness in his game.

All fair points. He has the all around tools, is smart and is mature beyond his age. His only weakness I see is in the d zone and it’s more being able to handle the physical part and quickness of the forechecking game in the NHL vs the skating or passing aspect. He’s gonna be real good.
