Jumbo coming to the Wings is pointless at this point...though it’d be nice to see.

Joe going to Toronto if he goes with a quality Dman isn’t such a crazy idea. (Like Spezza) He can lineup on the wing and at centre. Depth down the middle is key. Good on draws, responsible defensively, still a great passer on the PP (with more time and space)...A big upgrade from them having to dress Gauthier. Guy is useless.

I get he hasn’t won, but that’s not so much on Joe. I remember watching Joe set up guys for tap-ins all playoff long year after year.

Overall maybe a sneaky good move - especially if a Dman goes with him to help sort the leafs d defence.

That’s the point. The Leafs are soft, and lack defense. Somehow trading for Jumbo Joe is going to solve this? Not!!

That may be one of the worst trade proposals I have ever seen.

First off Joe has never ever wanted to play for the leafs !! Nice try ek. But and it's a big but , I think minutes a game on. The top two lines would really help taveres and Matthew's. Up and down the lineup he could really do some damage. 12 14 minutes a game. Still would need a defenceman in this deal. I wouldn't be opposed but I doubt highly Joe would even accept this for the pure fact Pittsburgh's looking for a winger and playing with Sid has a lot more possibility!!!!

You'd think peddling made up roomers about the leafs would be easier than this. Unicorn defenseman for whatever. There is no lower hanging fruit around.

Kovlachuk is pointing to his agent -- "get me contract!"
- AlfieisKing

No, he was pointing to his son. It was his son's birthday, he had asked him to score a goal for his birthday

It has never been a possibility. Even if he said it was. Players have friends and family and sometimes will say what they think they want to hear when it come to playing for the hometown team. But it just never happens. Thorton loved playing in Cali. Won nothing of course but that didn't bother him. Making top dollar and walking around in flip flops with no notoriety. Except when he went on the road. But he didn't mind that cause he still wanted his endorsement contracts.

But of course you don't know him. You always say you talk to all these NHL players and executives. How did you get to know them all? You aren't even a real reporter. You blog from your basement. You don't even use your real name. You've never been involved in any kind of hockey team at any level. It's ok to write about something you know nothing about. Just please stop telling lies.

I am a fan of the Maple Leafs. They have a ton of talent but they aren't going anywhere this year. They need several trades to help find the right mix of players.
Those type of trades come in the summer

Their Defense although not great is not that bad. Pittsburgh won a Cup with a bunnch of 3-4-5's playing a strong, committed game. TheLeafs are not committed to playing a defensive game. Nothing will change until they do

Pittsburgh won that cup riding a hot goalie too. Freddy has been just ok this year, and we still don't know how much more time he's going to miss. Campbell has been fine in two games. I just don't see this group of players catching fire in the next 25 games, unless we count getting lit up by Florida again?

Why would a team that’s not going to make the playoffs trade for a 40 year old rental? This is dumb

What would San Jose want in return?..... It couldn't be much, perhaps a 3rd round pick & conditional pick based on how many games he plays or how far the team acquiring him advances in the playoffs?

As a Hawks fan I wouldn't mind if the Hawks traded for Thornton (at the right price), because I think a guy like Joe could really bring a spark in the locker room, not only that but be an asset on the ice...... I mean I would LOVE to see a Kovalchuk-Thornton-Kane PP unit - I think it would be amazing... And for once the Hawks have significant cap space (13M) which is a ton for a team like the Hawks that have been up against the wall every trade deadline for the last decade - and the Hawks are still in playoff contention, and with 13M in cap space you can make a lot of improvements - that can turn you from a bubble to a contender....

I'd also attempt to sign Byfuglien too for the rest of the season once his contract is terminated if I were Bowman..... Pro-rated I think the Hawks could add Buff, Kovalchuk and Thornton for less than 3 million...... Make a couple of trades and the Hawks go from a "bubble team" to a contender.....

Yea, I know this is an unlikely scenario, however if I was a GM (Bowman) I would try to make it happen..... What's the worst that can happen? the experiment goes wrong, then you end up with a lottery pick, what's the best? you make a deep playoff run and lift the Cup for the 4th time - or at the very least bring your franchise back from the dead, from being bottom feeders and you have something to build on next season. The Chicago Blackhawks are in that position..... You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.......

And yea, before I get attacked - indeed I have been a fanboy of the Hawks since the early 80's, and a hockey fan forever so from a hockey perspective this just makes a lot of sense given the Hawks cap space, where they are in the the standings and that they're not out of the playoffs - yet, lol..... I mean they are one of the few bubble teams that has the assets and the cap space to make a couple of major acquisitions...
