Shouldn't you be worried about how much of a bust Coleman is when you trade Ho-Sang for him?

Guess you didn't get the joke. Brooks spewed some bs about the Devils trading Palmeri and then wondered if the Devils would throw in Coleman if the Islanders gave up Wahlstrom and Ho-Sang

No I didn't see that, I tend to just avoid most of the stuff Brooks writes. I'd love either, we were discussing Palmieri over in the other thread not too long ago. But Brooks clearly didn't peek at the Isles salary cap otherwise he'd have realized there is no way they're fitting Palmieri's salary under the cap next year without shedding some money.

Maybe if the Devils took Komarov it'd work out but I'm not holding my breath

I think cap wise you guys will just skate by. We all know Barzal is getting paid, but the savings from not resigning Martin and Greiss should cover a bunch of that. You might actually be able to get help from the Devs too, looking from their capfriendly, they might need help to get to the floor.

Well they'll have to replace Greiss. If it's Sorokin then he gets a one-year ELC and will need a contract the following season. If he stays in Russia then they're going to have to be able to either re-sign Greiss or bring in some outside help.

Barzal/Pulock/Toews are probably going to eat up most of the cap space, even if the cap goes up the maximum 5%. I think if they want to add any sort of semi-significant outside help they're going to have to get a bit creative.

Without speculating on term, I’m guessing: $9.5M AAV for Barzal, $6.5M for Pulock, $4M for Toews which is a cool $20M eaten up right off the bat. Then you need to figure out the second goalie and whatever other spare parts they need to round out the roster. Hopefully at least one or two of the bottom-six roles can be filled with guys like Dal Colle/Bellows/Koivula/etc… but Lou and Barry don’t exactly like relying on young guys, so not sure how likely that is

I don't want this trade, only because that's another >$2M toward the cap that prevents us from signing ADA or Kreider. I'd rather have the picks or a prospect that earns about the same as Georgie (or anyone else we trade) until we get through next years cap hell. Because, to me the alternative is bringing in someone that will push out someone we have now and don't want to lose.
- Tonybere

I’m assuming Kreider is dealt tho lol. AA would replace Kreiders speed. He can fly. Not as good tho, but he’d be half the price of Kreider

Just out of curiosity, would you give up your 1st if it meant getting rid of the Ladd contract? Although who knows, in this fake trade world maybe the Devils just take Ladd to help them reach the floor.

I think the Bruins loss to the Red Wings is going to make them panic

4 assets for Kreider

FOUR OF EM

- jimbro83

I believe Wings have beaten Boston twice. And I think I read Montreal loss to the wings 3 times. Montreal sure could use those pts now

Honestly? No, probably not.

The Isles have a few prospects with real high ceilings, but there's also a lot of risk to them. I don't think that they can afford to be throwing away first round picks just to clear $5M in cap space. I think Komarov becomes a legitimate option for a trade if the Isles wait until after July 1st when they owe him a $1M bonus. He only has $3M total in actual salary left on his deal after that, with no more bonuses. By all accounts he's a great locker room guy and some young team out there might value that at a low cost, if the Isles include another relatively-minor piece. I've been saying for awhile that they should explore moving Bailey in the offseason. No NTC/NMC, he's still a valuable player, and his deal is pretty fair.

Long story short, I think burning a 1st only to shed salary would be a bad idea. I think they can work something else out to achieve the same, or similar, results.

Love it!
Glad to see Quinn going with the hot glove instead of trying not to bruise a certain ego, although we'll see what happens over the next few starts.

Yeah, I agree, also, and I don't mean this as a slight, but you guys have trouble getting high end players in FA. If that was a possibility I would probably do it, because that Ladd contract is one of the worst

Yea. Hanks feelings must be secondary. This kid needs to play minimum 4 of every 5 games. He’s amazing, and already won 100 of 125 games in his career across 3 leagues

Maybe that’ll finally get Hank to waive and help this org out. He’s been paid handsomely, he oughta do them a favor 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wait, I'm confused. You agree that they shouldn't do it but then you say that you would if the opportunity presented itself?

And yeah, there's no argument that the Isles have trouble attracting UFA's.

Meaning if you could get a high profile FA the 1st might not be that important in getting rid of the Ladd contract

For instance lets say Panarin was most likely going to the Isles, but you needed to unload Ladds contract and the 1st was the price. I don't think you would care too much about the 1st

Its the whole point the Isles have a tough time getting UFA's.

Thats why their 1st is important.

Just a heads up, I screenshotted this and saved it for when Kreider gets traded:
