Lots of potential for some major regret with that one.

But GM's, for the most part, seem to have gotten smarter about not overpaying for rentals anymore since the playoffs are a crapshoot no matter what. A lot of the package will obviously depend on the level of prospect, but I don't think he's a "guaranteed 1st" kind of player.

Agreed. But all it takes is a bidding war between 2 playoff teams. GM's do dumb things right before 3 pm on deadline day. Kreider is the prize and then the teams losing out on him will circle back to Pageau. Remember when David Poile traded a first round pick for Paul Gaustadt? A fourth line center who could win faceoffs? Sabres are still laughing at that trade.

Dorion has to be careful to not over play his hand. Don't trade Pageau too early and get lowballed. But don't hang onto him too long and get fleeced like the Isles did with Vanek.

I think a conditional 1st or a 2nd and a prospect is reasonable.......not sure if that's what they're expecting, but it's what's fair.

had they traded him earlier, it would have likely been more, but agreed that he's cooled off a bit.

still, he's a 20+ goal center, who can play in all situations, against other teams top lines..........and he's by far the best center available.......supply and demand, and the fact that a ton of centers on playoffs teams are out medium to long term, could mean that there ends up being a bit of a bidding war, and someone overpays
