literally, just find the video from one single flyers game from the 70's..........there were probably more elbows, cross checks, high sticks, etc, thrown by the flyers in that one arbitrary game that you find, than in an entire week of NHL games played today (by all teams combined). - sensarmy_11
Go ahead and find it. Do the research. |

No actually I didn't miss the point you made. I think your point was BS. - MJL
How so?
The point was based on perception and hypocrisy. (You should be well versed in this, as you spend an unhealthy amount of time harassing Tanner about both)
The players on our favorite teams are hero's.
The players on opposing teams are villains.
Makes no difference what the infraction was.
Anyhoo, you're most likely too stund to realize any of this, so I'm probably just wasting my own time.
Good luck with the online harassment schtick! It's always fun to watch Tanner school you about Hockey and life in general.
How's that for B.S?

I was being perfectly respectful and having a hockey talk........you're the one who got all whiney because I asked if you actually watched hockey back in the 70's and 80's (which judging by your response, and complete lack of knowledge of hockey back then, you obviously didn't).
so please, enjoy the adult room, which i'm sure is filled with all the other teens and early 20 year olds who don't know anything about hockey prior to Crosby and McDavid. |

Aw, you're jelly. How cute. Better flag me again, Jimmy. You're a spineless coward after all. You also have the IQ of a grapefruit. - gergeswillems
Like I said, you are the worst at this. It's pretty pathetic to troll a hockey blogger, but I just hate how much you suck at it. |

i'm not assuming anything, which is why I asked. you're a flyers fan, or so your profile says.......did you grow up watching the broad street bullies? if you did, then there is no way you can say that hockey is dirtier today than it was back then. some of those guys would be friggin thrown in prison today if they pulled the same poop they did back then (obviously a tongue in cheek comment, exaggerated for effect) - sensarmy_11
How would Brad Marchand do against the Broad Street Bullies? He'd be the invisible man. Be scared $hitless. Has he ever had the crap beat out of him during his NHL career? I can't recall it. There's no fear today. He just yaps and hides behind his visor, teammates and refs. Pays a fine and then commences being the rat dirtbag he is. At least Tom Wilson will fight. But his game is reckless. Targeting knees is good for the game? |

It's not my fault you hate yourself. Your insecurity is pathetic. Plus you're a Hypocrite. You can dish it out but can't take it. Opinion isn't fact. You're too ignorant to understand this. You're a mental midget. I live fairly close to you. I'm more than willing to discuss this in person. |

It's BS again. If Marchand played for the team that I root for, I would still recognize him for being a complete jerkoff who needs his ass kicked. Despite the fact that he is a great player. You tried to make the false comparison that the same action was unacceptable for one player but acceptable for another. That may be the case with some people but not with me. My case is Marchand does what he does because one, he's a complete bumhole and second, he knows he's not going to have to pay a price on the ice.

i'm in no way saying the game isn't dirty today, obviously there are still dirt bags in the league...........but it's not comparable to what it used to be. you mention marchand and Wilson, look back in the day at guys like chris simon, ron hextall, scott stevens, pronger, hunter, kasparitis (sp?), bertuzzi, howe, mcsorley, etc, etc, etc.
if you polled 100 people on who the 10 dirtiest hockey players of all time were, I bet at least 7-8 of them would be players who played prior to the instigator rule |

it's a question...............I apologize if you get super offended by someone asking you a simple question. I mean I know it was full of mean and insulting words, but I didn't think you'd be so hurt and upset by it.
do you need a hug or something after such a devastating and disrespectful emotional blow? |

oh, the fact that I can't ask you a question without you getting butthurt reflects much more on you than on me. especially since it's a very clear pattern displayed by you, especially in Tanner blogs
edit - also, you still haven't answered the question. did you actually watch any hockey games in the 70's and 80's? |

Idk, from what I understand Ken Linesman got away with a lot of poop because he had Paul Holmgren on his line. Enforcers can stick up for their poop head players as well as their stars lol |

No. You're assuming that's the point I was making. You know what they say about assumptions?
Serious question though. Did you watch and follow NHL hockey in the 70's and early 80's?
It's unfathomable how one person can be so wrong about so much.
I still think it's a schtick.

Linesman was definitely a dirty play. Bobby Clarke was one of the dirtiest cheap shots in the league.

messier spent his entire career in Edmonton throwing his elbow into peoples heads because he knew that if anyone tried to fight him, Mcsorley and/or semenko would end their lives.
goons protected their stars from being hit, but they also allowed them to be cheap and dirty players also |

you REALLY don't want to answer the question about whether or not you actually ever saw a game from the 70's or 80's, do you.

Scott Stevens and Chris Pronger couldn't play today. They'd be suspended all the time. Back in the day the hip check was considered to be a skill. Now it's deemed first degree murder. Of course hockey was dirty in the 50s,60s,70s,80s... the point being lost here is that the dirt bag crap is still here. Fighting has been replaced by other means of retribution. Drilling players into the glass from behind. Targeting the head. Slashing on the back of the legs and wrists.
This has always gone on but today the players doing it are not held accountable for it. There's zero fear. The rats rule the league. I always believed Scott Stevens were hard legal hits with the shoulder. Many thought he was dirty. He smoked Kozlov in the 1995 SCF and Wings fans cried about it. Kozlov had his head down and Stevens caught him. It was a clean check IMO.
Lindros never learned to keep his head up because he never had to. He was biggest and stronger than his opponents. But he paid the price for it in the NHL. Derian Hatcher is another player who couldn't play today. He was basically an assassin on ice. Feared. Dirty. But when guys like Hatcher, Pronger and Stevens hit an opponent, they had to answer for it and fight. Today players don't have to fight. There's no accountability. |

Bobby Clarke might be the dirtiest player to ever play the game. His stick work was legendary. Marchand doesn’t even come close. |

You have to respect them for that. When challenged, they would answer the bell. Today's players know they won't have to pay a price. That leads to more nonsense. I don't think Stevens was dirty at all. Based on what we know now it was ridiculous that direct shots to the head done legally were ever allowed but they were. The Stevens hit on Lindros is famous but it was a legal hit. |
