If I recall correctly Mr. Ate Me, every time I have suggested Subban, you have crapped on that idea. I could be wrong though.

But I do know this, I did not realize that the Jets have close to 23 million in salary cap space for this year alone, hence adding Subban would be easier. If Chevy does not use it to help out his team, I really question his will to win.

- TheUltimateJet

But how much cap space for next year? I ask this, as I don't understand why everyone says we have so much cap space next year. I only see about $5-6 million - unless Little retired - and this includes Buff off the books.

I believe I have current Jets cap (going forward to next year) at about $66 mill with three fwds, 2D and a goalie still to sign.

I'll get back to this later, have to run right now. Maybe someone can clarify me on this?

They have 23 million this year, but you can’t spend that on people with term.

We only have about 9 million in space next year and we need to sign about 8 players to fill out the roster. Our cap is fine but we don’t have some plethora of space to take on expensive players other teams no longer want

Said before I was going to ask for help on this. Everyone seems to be saying, bar some, that we have so much cap space, looking ahead to next year. I just don't see it. Maybe swomeone can help me?

Here's what I see in contracts already in play:
Forwards- B. Wheeler, K. Connor, P. Laine, M. Scheifele, N. Ehlers, B. Little, M. Perreault, A. Lowry, A. Copp and D. Gustafsson. 10 Fwds = 49.8 million

Defense: J. Morrissey, N. Pionk, T. Poolman, C. Dahlstrom, and V. Heinola.
5 d-men = 11.8 million

Goalie - C. Hellebuyck = 6.2 million

So grand total of salary = $67.8 million. So we still need 3 fwds, 2 d-men and 1G. Let's say we give the following players this:
J. Roslovic 2.5
J. Harkins 1.0
M. Appleton 1.0
S. Niku 2.0
D. Samberg .9
X Goalie - 1.6
Total = 9.0 to make full roster

Now we have 67.8 for signed players + 9.0 for others = $76.8 million. With cap space currently at $81.5 that's not a lot of space. $4.7 million!

Now that does not include Byfuglien - but does include Little. Will he play or go on LTIR which would naturally give us lots of space. As well the cap may go slightly up to, say, $83 million. So at most, with Little counting, we have about $5-6 million in space, and we would have Laine and Pionk, etc to sign the following year.

I'm thinking that if we are to upgrade our D or 2C position, that a player or players must go out when they come in.

Am I missing something here? Someone help me!

Well done, thanks for the breakdown.

I do think we see some off season moves with some salary going out.

Does Copp, Roslovic, Harkins, and Gustafsson all having the ability to play Center make Lowry expendable?

Would anyone want Perrault?

Does Chevy move a Roslovic, connor, Ehlers, in a large deal? If he does, is Vesalainen finally ready for that spot?

looks good. If a trade is made for a player with term there may be a Roslovic, Perreault, Lowry, Niku player going out and this will add some cap space. Also 83m may be conservative considering the small increase last year and extra revenue from Seattle expected.

The Jets could easily move Copp, Lowry, Perreault and possible Kulikov at the deadline if they choose. They should try to trade now or not resign the deadwood of Bourque, Letestu, Shore, Bitetto, Dahlstrom, Sbisa and Shaw. At the draft and UFA July 1st trade for or sign as a UF a true 1/2 d-man, a true #2 center. Barring trades next seasons roster could look like this;

Connor Scheifele Laine
Ehlers #2 center Wheeler
Harkins Roslovic Appleton
Copp Lowry Perreault/Vesalainen/Chibisov

#1 D-man Morrissey
Pionk Poolman
Beaulieu/Samberg/Niku/Heinola

This team has a lot of pieces to be great again and only needs some tinkering and good health So adding pieces at the deadline would be too expensive.

Thank goodness Wesley is reporting here as we get a chance to talk about the Jets. Without him we would have no coverage. I just hope he starts giving his opinion soon.

Easy answers. I see Little being put on LTIR much like Nathan Horton and David Clarkson have been put on. I would like to see Chevy buy out or trade Perrault and voila you have got 18 million in cap space available next year. I think 3 million is an over payment for a fourth line center in Lowry and I am sure he becomes expendable.

Also trades do involve salary going out so I am not as worried about cap space as some.

Thanks for input - interesting.

Agree that we will see some off-season moves with salary going out. Most logical ones going out, IMO, are Lowry, Roslovic (and it kills me to say that), Niku and Perreault (but maybe Perreault at deadline?)

Chevy only moves Ehlers and Connor over my dead body. Why would the Jets ever even think about trading their best player, Kyle Connor, potential 40-goal scorer, that's on a team-friendly contract? Same with Ehlers, our most exciting player?

Could rights to Samberg still be in play? Don't hear peep on this front.

What you say looks entirely possible. One thing is that Dahlstrom is already signed for next year.

Gawd I hope they revert back the first two lines to what they were before:
Connor-Scheif-Laine
Ehlers-Wheeler-Copp

Last game it was terrible -they looked like fish without water. Thank gawd for the Harkins-Roslovic-Appleton line!

See Sbisa out, Sammy back in for tonight's tilt.

I’d fall over if a team asked for any of the following

Beaulieu
Sbisa
Dahlstrom
Bourque
Bitetto
Shaw

And Kulikov and Perrault are not far from this list

Lowry, appleton, Roslovic are probably the only realistic pieces teams might ask about for this deadline

(answering my own question from Sunday about what scouts were in attendance at the Jets v Hawks game)

If one of the reasons Roslovic and Copp both played some centre and some wing on Sunday is to showcase them the following teams were said to have scouts in attendance:

Toronto Maple Leafs (2), New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, New Jersey Devils and the Washington Capitals

If Jets are looking for D or 2C the following could be in play - my 10 minute list, add or delete as you wish:

Toronto - Barrie
Rangers - Fox, DeAngelo, Skjei, Strome
Aves - Jost
Devils - Zacha, Subban, Severson
Caps - lots of draft picks in the organization

No one is touching Bealieau or Kulikov.

As BW suggested earlier, I could see the Jets moving Niku. Perhaps Niku to Florida for Trochek?

Ok, what's the scoop with DeMelo? He's a RD so is that the attraction?

Really haven't watched the Sens play that much to form an opinion, never really noticed DeMelo much. Or so is that the attraction, simple game?

I know others here have mentioned D-M in a positive way, so must be an upgrade. Right?

Possibles on your list that would be on my list:
Rangers - DeAngelo, Strome (I like that)
Avs - Jost
Devils - Zacha, Severson (a distinct possibility)
Caps - maybe a buyer for M. Perreault? Draft pick? 3rd?

Barrie won't be available I wouldn't think, a "No" to Skjei and a "God NO" for P.K. Subban. Holy sheekskabob, NO! Zacha or Strome would really interest me looking ahead to next year!

With Rantanen out, my $$$ would be on the Av's picking up Krieder now.
