As per Simmonds, he's one year removed from his Messier award and he's still throwing his body around and can be effective on our 3rd or 4th lines. I never said he's "the answer" but he would be another effective piece on and off the ice. He presents tools this team currently lacks outside of Kyle Clifford: size and fearlessness.
If you can present a more affordable gritty, power forward type I'm willing to listen. I personally think this team needs more than just an on-ice contributor. Sure they can bring in "crash and bang players" who are younger - but this team needs a veteran presence with experience. Plus, he's a rental so it shouldn't cost too much to acquire his services.
Kerfoot has been just fine. Versatile and cheap.
Barrie would be better if we had a stud defender that could adequately cover his sometimes questionable roaming tactics. I won't be sad to see him go if he brings in assets that can help us pick up a Muzzin+ type on the right side. - mjones242
Simmonds is cooked. I wouldn't want him unless it was 1 mill or less.
Kerfoot is just ok. He's like a Johnsson who can take faceoffs. The contract isn't bad, but we don't need another winger that needs Tavares making 3.something million.
Barrie isn't what this team needs or needed. He puts up points but he's prone to bad decisions with the puck and can't defend.
This team needs a retool. 2 years ago I wouldn't have counted them out if they were behind by 2 with 5 minutes left. Now if they're up by 2 going into the third they're (frank)ed. They lost something in the last two years that they need.

Whatever man. Kerfoot has been fine. - Steven_Seagull
He really hasn't been.
He's another small, weak, soft, "speed and skill" player the Leafs already have too many of. Playing with Tavares and Nylander, he should have way more goals and points for his price tag.
Rather trade him and get another Hyman type. (frank), even Hyman has more goals and points and he's played fewer games coming back from a torn ACL.

Nah, Kerfoot has been fine. Good two-way game with a bit of an edge. But whatever man.

We could say the same for freddy he's been bad this year so far really - Archaic
Andersen faces more rubber and he still has a .908 SV% which is better than Bob's .897 SV%. They both should be .917 SV% goalies or better but Bob has been worse this year. Think the Leafs blueline has been weaker too so Andersen usually gets less help than Bob usually gets. Both teams provide similar offensive output.

Simmonds is not what he use to be. A Messier Award isn't worth much, sorry.
Marcus Foligno at 50% retained. Sam Bennett. Both younger, more gas in the tank and cheaper.
Kerfoot is not cheap or versatile. He's a passenger on Tavares' line with 8 goals for 3+ AAV. He's barely half the player Kadri was at 3/4 the price.
Barrie is not what the Leafs need. If they're going to spend assets to get a stud defender, they need that guy to be beside Rielly. - JohnFergusonJr
1. I never said Simmonds was what he used to be. I know he's not an elite scoring power forward. The Leafs don't need scoring - they need toughness and grit. They need to not be the least feared team to play against. Simmonds lends a credible physical presence to the team.
2. A Messier award isn't worth anything? Okay, bud. It says a LOT about his character and commitment.
3a. Foligno would actually be an even better fit. Good call. He's a LW and the Leafs could fit him without the Wild needing to retain anything. One year left is nice as well.
3b. Bennett? I don't see the Flames as sellers but perhaps there's a hockey trade that could be made that makes sense for squads. Barrie or Dermott as part of a package perhaps.
Well done, intriguing options there.
4. It's a good thing Kerfoot wasn't the key piece for Kadri then, right? Barrie was a gamble and a secondary choice (T.J. Brodie being #1) and a gamble that hasn't panned out. Barrie can still bring assets back that can make that trade still worthwhile.
Kerfoot has put up 25 points playing 15 mins a game and can be shifted up and down the lineup in a pinch. He's also a tradeable asset whose getting paid probably exactly what he should be.
