Why is that? - TheMussel
Because Max doesn't care about results. He has his opinions and sticks with them regardless of what happens.
The majority of reasonable people allow their opinion to be changed on a player based off production. |

Freddy getting overpaid is the scariest part of what may happen in the next couple years.
Remember that Phaneuf contract, because we didn't have anything better? In a cap world, especially with the way the team has structured their salaries, they absolutely cannot afford to overpay Ander5en. - Aetherial
I'm more blown away that two separate teams traded for Phaneuf and that contract |

I am just curious where all the 'Andersen is a top5 goalie in NHL' people are at now... - MaximusAurelius
On a boat? Hopefully with the "Woll will be the starter next year" guy. |

Eyebrows are fairly up over the way this team is constructed by Dubas but the one evil he hasn't committed is massively overpaying a veteran in decline.
So far ... |

I feel more comfortable actually having an opinion on a player and sticking with it than go from 'Andersen is a vezina calibre goalie' to 'trade Andersen - worst five hole in the NHL' in just 6 months, yes.. |

I would consider trading any expiring contract. Even Muzzin. I love Muzz, but if you have to overpay him, trade him for an asset. Hopefully Muzz and Dubas have talked and Muzz is being reasonable so we will resign him...
You have to manage assets in a cap world. We have done a bad job of that over the last few seasons, wrongly thinking we were a contendor... we could have got good assets back for guys like JVR, Bozak, etc. These asset loses are already starting to affect us. We don't have many good depth options left in the AHL and the ones we have called up are meh. (Goat etc) - Hockey_Reverend
Apparently muzzman will be signed by March 1st. |

Dubas will set this team back a few years these next 4-6 months unless he actually trades away Nylander Johnsson and Barrie and doesn't resign Muzzin. |

No doubt that Andersen has struggled and hasn't been as consistent as he has been the past few years.. I don't think we can blame fatigue anymore.
Going into this season, I thought Andersen was capable of being a top 5 goalie.. I don't see that happening anymore. |

Well the goal is to win a cup in the next 5 years.
Need a (a few) gritty skilled dman to help with that.
Unless willy brings back a stud 2-3 dman, he wont be traded.
Barrie will fack off eventually, but you arent getting much back in trade that helps them this year.
A team trading for him will be a playoff team and they arent gonna unload talent.
A non contender isnt giving up much for a couple months of barrie.

I don't see anyone saying that thanks for exaggerating it to help skew it in your favor. Always a pleasure Max. |

Leon Draisaitl is super overrated. Despite racking up PP points, he has a 47 % Corsi and the Oilers have been outscored with him on the ice at 5v5.
They are going to give him the least deserved Hart Trophy in NHL history.

You're right about Barrie, I do not see him being traded, unless the Leafs give up on this season..
There were reports that Josh Anderson is available from CBJ, but from what I've read the Bruins are willing to include a 1st rd pick. We can't match that. |

Hot take; If Matthews wins the Rocket Richard Trophy and the Leafs make the playoffs, he will be the Hart Trophy winner. |

Everyone is the hockey world (including their moms) thought andy had been the leafs mvp the past couple of seasons. That included a month or so of this season. But hes been injured and also hasnt played at his regular level the past month or so.
He could easily return to form |

We'll see.. I think he could win it..
If he wins the Rocket and they make the playoffs..
It's hard to just pick 3 nominees, but I'd say Pastrnak/Matthews/McDavid(if the Oilers make the playoffs) |
