Can we market Barrie too? If not, why? Id rather keep Dermott and move Barrie. - fifty__missions

Absolutely not.

That's what the Leafs have committed to for next year. There's no place for Barrie, Dermott or Marincin going forward. They don't fill our needs.
You move them, bring in assets then flip those assets (plus more) to bring in what we need which is a #1 RHD and a 2nd pair RHD. |

Trade him because he’s a UFA and the team isn’t good enough.
I’d still do the trade 100 times out of 100. - Steven_Seagull
But him not being good enough led to the team not being good enough and him being a UFA is a stupid reason to acquire him in the first place when they traded away a great contract to get him.
So again, it's a bad trade they need to recover from. If it was a good trade, they wouldn't need to be recovering from it. You can't have it both ways.
It's okay to admit it; it was a bad trade. |

Nope. Kerfoot has been better than I expected, and Barrie has been putting up the point totals (under Keefe) as expected. Good trade. |

The rest of this season is a formality.
They're 50/50 to make the playoffs, 90/10 losing in the 1st round.
If you've watched how this team plays, they're not going anywhere this year. |

So you expected Kerfoot to play like poop and only have 8 goals? How nice to have the bar set so low.
Barrie has been a disaster defensively and you want him traded because you don't want him re-signed nor think he can put them over the top this year. Sorry buddy boy, that's a fail trade. Lie to yourself as much as you wish but that's a bad trade. |

also, i think they dropped something around ~$75M USD in signing bonuses this past summer.
as much as the leafs are a cash cow, that was a lot scratch. i doubt the higher ups approved that thinking playoffs were a maybe. |

They have paid Clarkson and Horton like a combined 40 million to not play. The owners are fine.
Throw lupul for another 20 million. |

A smart one realizes his mistake and does his best to mitigate the damage.
It doesn't mean he has to trade Barrie and call up Marlies to tank the season.
He could make moves to keep the team in it this year too by moving Barrie, Dermott and Marincin and then flipping those assets for guys that can play right now and with term on their contract too.
