also, i think they dropped something around ~$75M USD in signing bonuses this past summer.

as much as the leafs are a cash cow, that was a lot scratch. i doubt the higher ups approved that thinking playoffs were a maybe.

A smart one realizes his mistake and does his best to mitigate the damage.

It doesn't mean he has to trade Barrie and call up Marlies to tank the season.

He could make moves to keep the team in it this year too by moving Barrie, Dermott and Marincin and then flipping those assets for guys that can play right now and with term on their contract too.
