TSN just said Chevy will not terminate Buffs contract till after the trade deadline. He is exploring all possible trades. This also makes it impossible for buff to play anywhere this season if he’s terminated after deadline

I think this is very smart

I also think, tallon in Florida will absolutely be interested and could possibly bring Trocheck??? In a deal with other pieces????

- Ross77

I'm not a huge Max Domi fan, but if something like you mention here, a deal involving Trocheck-Byfuglien, probably plus pieces, I'd certainly be down with that.

Actually I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Drouin, but not sure what it would take to be worth the chance? But then again, perhaps Droiun's days at C are completely over, so scratch that if so.

One thing, Morrissey seems to be fully recovered from last year's injury now, and playing like he used to. Huge plus going down the stretch!

He would have to make that deal with a team with lots of cap space. Florida is trying to get rid of Trochek because they are going to have cap problems next year. Unless Florida also wants to get rid of a bad contract then it would make sense for them to trade for Byfuglien.

Florida is not actively trying to get rid of Trocheck for cap space. Their D suck and it needs help! Trocheck is the price they’d use to get a D.
Their cap next year is not bad at all. Hoffman, dadyoff, and Pysk all come off.

I think everyone on here knows how I've drooled over getting Trocheck for the last two years. Cheap salary and great fit for the Jets in every way. We would have to give up a defenseman to do it though so I'm not sure how this happens for Winnipeg. I see big things for Niku down the road so I'm not sure who we give up . Roslovic makes sense to give them cap room and then they could use that room to get a defenseman through a three-way trade.

They have 16 million dollars available with 4 RFA's to sign. No way they are letting Dadanov walk, especially with his chemistry with Huberdeau and Barkov.

I like Niku as well but I think he’s behind Samberg and Heinola in Jets future plans.
I Also think the Jets will absolutely try to sign Demelo, no guarantee that happens but Niku is far from a lock next year for regular duty.
Stanly also continues to be pushed down depth chart. Does Niku or Stanly plus tempt Florida?
Florida does not need forwards at all. They score easily and have some great young forwards waiting for spots next year ( Borgsrom / tippet / serron )
They want D.

That’s a lot!! The RFA’s are not big tickets either. Plus if you remove Trocheck, your now up to 20 mil in space.

Like I just wrote though, they have very good forwards all waiting for spots. Tippett is really really good and could score 40 playing with those two

But you are suggesting they take on Byfuglien's 7.6 million cap hit. That almost cuts their cap space in half. Florida seems to be an active participant in the UFA market yearly and I am sure they would rather spend money on that than buying out Byfuglien.

Hey it’s a very, very long shot!! I get that.
I’m just saying it’s absolutely doable.
Taking on buff and losing Trocheck still leaves them with roughly 13 mil to sign 4 RFA’s ( who will all make around 1 mil each ) and then 9 million for Dadynov ( like you say they may not want to lose him ) and whoever else. Lots of room

Buff for Trocheck would be a great deal, tho I highly doubt that FLA are into that. But Trocheck is a good 2C, and with DeMelo added to the D core, this club could run 3 good lines.

Connor Scheiffs Wheeler
Ehlers Trocheck Appleton
Harkins Copp Ras
Borque Shore Shaw

JoMo DeMelo
Kuli Pionk
Sbisa Niku/poolman

I dont mind that lineup!

You're missing Laine.

The Trocheck rumors make no sense to me, why would a wildcard team trade it's 2C now, 2C is as hard to fill as adding a dman would.

You wouldn't think that the Panthers would dump Trocheck at this time, would you? I'm thinking if this happens, it happens in the summer time.

Then again the Panthers just traded with the Leafs who they are battling for a trip to the big dance. Go figure!

As I put my GM hat on for a minute, I figure the most likely (none of which are likely) Centre quick fixes for a playoff fight are Trocheck and Ryan Strome.

Other long-shots, all with NMC or NTC clauses could be M. Koivu, J. Thornton, M, Zibanejad, and Ryan Getzlaf. Doubt if any of these players will be picking up change of address cards to Winnipeg though!

With Domi potentially being available, we should look at acquiring him.

To WPG: Max Domi

To MTL: Kristian Vesalainen, 2020 second round pick

That would be a fair deal!

- TheUltimateJet

I think it'd take more to get Domi but he's exactly what the Jets need, would need to be a 1st and likely another piece but it'd be worth it as long as they knew they could sign him long term.

It makes no sense to deal Trocheck and that trade with the Leafs was a minor one, unless they have another deal worked out for a center I can't see the logic behind trading Trocheck.

I would be making a call to Montreal regarding Weber, see if he fits in their plans and if a rebuild is in the works. There are not many D like him who can both dish it out and dish it in (Chara, Parayko, Hedman, Doughty, Burns). The PP gains, should be able to fit him into the cap with Buff off the books and he looks to have a few good years left in him. He has returned to form quickly after injuries and plays a classic solid game.

From what I am reading and hearing, it appears that Quenville is not a fan of Trochek's game. I think they are willing to move him because of that.

I was basing my trade proposal on what Ottawa got for Stone last year. If that truly is the template than the deal I proposed makes sense. The only piece that is missing would be Lowry.

You know what Ross77, your theory might have legs. From what I am reading it appears that Panthers and Quenville in particular have a thing for Byfuglien.

Now would that not be something Byfuglien for Trochek?

I think it could be Buff and Niku or Stanley for trocheck. Maybe Lowry is added on our end and something else on theirs?

Domi is an RFA though and Stone was a UFA which is a big difference.

I'd give more for Domi if he's coming with a long term extension though, would easily deal the 2020 1st and Vesalainen+ for Domi if I knew he could be signed to a long term deal.

True, Vegas was given the opportunity to negotiate a long-term deal with Stone prior to being moved, essentially adding a player with term (like Domi would be). Ottawa did not receive a first for him and rather got a former first rounder in Branstrom, a future second rounder, and a journeyman player in Oscar Lindberg (who's not even playing in the NHL anymore).

Branstrom would be equal to Vesalainen, a second is a second, Lowry or even Nik Shore or Gabriel Bourque for that matter would be equivalent to Lindberg.

Domi might have a slightly higher value due to him being 24, whereas Stone was 26 when that trade happened. I still think that due to him having a down year, we might be able to get for cheap.

I would do the trade with Vesalainen and (Shore, Perreault, Chibisov, Sbisa, Bitetto etc.) and a 2nd.

the question is what does Montreal value him at? It was over between Stone and Ottawa. Is it over with Domi?

Straight up I'd take Brannstrom in a heartbeat over Vesalainen. Probably same development timeline but I think Brannstrom has much more upside.
