Possibly

Not sure who we would get for him though not sure if they will trade byram for palms they may try to give us zadarov for palms

- dmarsden2988

I would love zadarov but not for palms unless it’s a first and a 3rd coming along

Timmins would be a great pickup, he is ready to step into the NHL. Timmins and a first for Palms - might even be too much.

Then ships Vats away and boom we have a spot open for Timmins in the NHL.

Don't think that's gonna happen, and i doubt the Avs make a major move. When talking to the media last night Sakic said Byram, Timmins, and Newhook are pretty much out of the discussion of being moved. Also said he doesnt want to move their 1st but it's not untouchable, prefers hockey trades

Domingue scratch is precautionary. Is someone seriously going to take him? Echoes of Kinkaid here.

No, nobody is taking him. What is happening is that they need Schneider's cap hit so they don't go below the floor.

They only gained alittle over 1M towards the cap from calling him up, so i would think theres a chance Domingue gets moved actually. He's a cheap option for teams to add for depth so i can see it. If both Simmonds and Vats are moved, depending how much is retained, we likely need a contract back to be at the floor whether Schneider is here or not

They are probably hoping he comes back to form so they can move him over the summer. Either that, or hoping he can be rehab'd into a serviceable back-up/mentor for young MB.

Really makes me upset we sold Hall so early on, considering what we were able to get back for Coleman. We have so much cap we could have easily eaten 50% of his salary (max allowed) and I am sure the return would've been more. At the least you remove the contingency on the 1st round pick.

Timmins wasn't available when Taylor was on the market, but I'd guess if we still had that Ace in our pocket, we could've created a bidding war to increase the prospect/pick we received btw ARZ, BOS, COL, etc...

How much money can we hold back on Simmonds? I know we can retain 50% but not sure what our cap is like especially if we trade vats for prospects/picks too

No clue. I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that we can't trade them both without taking salary back.

I believe I read that same thing and we are currently about 7.5 mil above the cap floor. Maybe bringing Schneids back up increased this number but simmonds and vats combine for ~9 mil.

Exploring a trade with Boston that would bring Backes contract to NJ might be the way to go.

That makes it interesting if we also find a trade for palms

Don't mind taking a bad contract back as long as the term isn't bad

I believe that we can retain salary on up to 3 contracts, so it gives us a lot of space to retain on Simmonds and Vatanen to move them to a contender who is in a cap crunch. There are a lot of bad contracts out there, but from what I've seen a lot of them are multi-year deals, which we could afford to take but isn't ideal.

After KK anything is possible. But you would think Korpisalo/Georgiev/Shesterkin/Raanta/Murray/Dell would all be smarter options. Doesn't look like its a sellers market regarding Goalies. Lots of good options, so I would be quite surprised if any offers come in on Louis. If anything, this is a chance to see what schneids has to offer. Last year he looked great down the stretch, and it would be nice to showcase him for a trade (I would assume we would eat some of that cap hit), or at the very least, gain confidence and get ready for a next season as a backup.

Toronto gave up a 1st to rid themselves of Marleau, who was in his final contract year. Backes has 2 which is certainly manageable, unless Hall is coming back. Regardless, he is a serviceable bottom 6 RW on this team that brings leadership and grit. I wouldn't be opposed to it for the right price.

I’m with you on this. I don’t think you can trust Cory as a backup no matter what how he looks. That has really screwed us two years in a row.

It’s fine to do this now because this season is over but NO for next year. This team really needs reliable goaltending not to be a complete dumpster fire.
