CBA Question:

How is Evan Bouchard slide eligible as a former CHLer playing in the AHL? He shouldn't be allowed to play in the AHL until he's 20, at which point his contract should kick in whether he plays in the NHL or not.

Bouchard is 20 and played 4 years of major junior, fulfilling the CHL/AHL age requirement. He hasn't played in 10+ NHL games yet, so he's still slide eligible. AHL games don't count.

Giving up a first round pick for a 35 year old Staal would be stupid. His numbers are decent but he could easily flake out.

If we're giving up high-end futures (top prospects or high picks) simply to win a playoff series, I'm not down. If it's the difference between winning the Cup or not, then I'd consider it. But just to make us a tougher second round out, no thanks.

I agree. Flyers are not at that point yet. They have such a good thing going with the development of the young players. They have more coming. Why mess with that for the low percentage chance that isn't very likely.

I hope any trade the Flyers do make isn't solely just for this season.

While staal is intriguing I would not want to give up a first and a prospect. I think that would be overpayment. If he was a few years younger I would do it. Reason we would have to include a roster player for cap wouldn’t we. Either or now not both.

Only interest I would have in carter is if they would retain and include a d man as a ghost like contract would have to go bc of cap. And don’t see la doing that

I have been hearing the Jackets are sellers. Jackets blogger believes he is a bad contract they are looking to get rid of. Also expect Backes to be traded to Detroit to clear up space for a bigger move. Likely Kreider but Id prefer he go to the Avs.

If the Flyers aren’t “at that point now”, when will they be?

IMO Sean Couturier, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny and Carter Hart are the only sure fire bright spots this team. The problem with such a small core like this is, Giroux, Voracek and JvR are at a tipping point. Those three are win now players.

This team could easily be a division contender and eastern conference contender next year. Lots of signs pointing the team is going in the right direction even with losing Lindblom and Patrick. Sanheim and Meyers pairing is something that’s really starting to become something , coaches have been giving that pairing more and more ice time. Young guys have been good and the older guys have just been ok, and I don’t think the old core is done yet. Also another year under Hart’s belt.

I would look at a guy like Johan Larsson from Buffalo. He fits under our prorated cap, decent on faceoffs, good bottom six centre at both ends with and without the puck. Also, the sabres are sinking again and aren't in our division.

I think it’s fair to say all the young players I mentioned have a decade to remain top players in the league. Coots has maybe a five year window. Giroux...I’m giving him two more seasons of Relevance. For all we know this year or next year could be our best opportunity.

with how well the Flyers have played and tonight is a must win to stay in the playoffs. the Metro is just brutal and the Flyers scehdule has been no gem.
