From 2007-2011 Carter had 1440 SOG on 2515 attempts. He hit the net only 57% of the time.

Now compare that number to all the other players who were heavy shot producers. Compare his percentage of missed shots to other similar player.

Zach Parise was the closest shooter that shot more shots than him (in 2008, Carters highest shot attempt year) and he hit 69.5%. Huge jump.

This was a common complaint about Carter back when he was a Flyer. I routinely look at the percentages of missed shots for Carter and player who were similar to him. Percentage wise Carter didn't miss the net anymore than any other player who was a high volume shot producer. The idea that he did, was a myth.
