Pretty tough to make up 6 points over only 23 games with no games in hand. |

We play the Flyers 3 times. Be a tall task to win all three, but it can be done. Isles and Jackets are falling fast too. |

Still think you have to do what you were going to do regardless. We have young guys that are already ready and taking on bigger roles. Kreider would be difficult to replace, but the way he is performing I'm almost positive you could get a roster player or really good young player that you could play in the lineup for him. Wouldn't be a bad time to try Buch at LW too. Buch-Chytil-Kakko as a line could be nuts. - 2sticks1puck
I agree with you 100 percent. Management has a plan. The whole talks with CK20's agent might be a show to get people to ante up. I think CK20 and Fast will be moved and the team going forward is what we will have. I think Strome will be signed, he and Panarin have some crazy chemisty. I think they will keep that duo going forward. |

True.
Jackets for sure have fallen off a cliff since Jones got hurt. |

16-7 is the record we'd probably need at minimum. Given Igor's track record it should be no issue! |

According to the COL blog Sakic said he’s not trading Kaut Byram Newhook or Timmins. There’s literally no one else I’d want from COL haha |

I have also been hearing he doesn't want to move a 1st round pick. I honestly don't know what he expects to trade for. Good luck when half of your team is out hurt right now |

I agree with you but can you blame him? That team has tons of cap space and their window is just beginning to open. No reason to sell the farm to make a push this year, especially with the injuries they have right now. |

I'm sure some of that is just posturing. Timmins and Kaut are not such untouchable prospects that they should never be traded for a solid NHL'er. I don't expect them to move Byram unless the return is high-end. Newhook probably falls somewhere in the middle.
If Lehner makes it to UFA, I could absolutely see COL getting him paid. |

For sure. What GMs say and what they do are usually very different. Also agreed that those 4 prospects are at different levels, although I'd have Newhook closer to Byram than to Timmins or Kaut. I guess my point is that if I were an Avs fan who saw that this team is set to be competitive for years to come, and have the cap space to keep all of these players through their prime, I'd be pretty mad if management tried to rush things in a year with so many injuries by trading a top prospect and a first for someone like Kreider who could still walk after the season. Being a rangers fan, I'd love it. I just see Boston and St. Louis as better fits for him given where they are this year. |

If I was an Avs fan I wouldn't want the team to go all in just for the sake of going all in, this is a perfect time to remind you that Avs fans have been teased by this kind of thing before in recent history. Remember the Statsny, ROR, Duchense core was supposed to be contenders for years to come and even had an appearance in the playoffs, and then it went downhill in a hurry. Remember the hope around coach Roy? There's no guarantees in hockey and sometimes if you are in the position to go for it, you have to put your chips in the middle because you just never know if your window closes way faster than anticipated for any reason. I would say Leafs fans are starting to find this out the hard way.
In terms of the Rangers, yeah I wouldn't want any panic moves for while this rebuild is going off, but make no mistake that we have to go for it when the time comes up. You just never know when things go off the rails. I don't think when we lost to the Lightning at home in game 7 that anyone thought the letter would come out 2 1/2 years later. The season before the letter we had just choked a series to the Senators, no one could have reasonably expected things would go as south as they did as fast as they did. Yet here we were. The same thing can happen to the Avs. |

Yeah I don't think Kaut and Timmins are special prospects. Timmins especially, with his concussion history. Newhook is real good, but I think there's still a decent amount of risk with him. |

You definitely have to go for it eventually, no doubt. But it's tough to draw parallels between the Avs now and the Rangers in 2015. That Rangers team went to the cup final the year before, and likely would have gone back in 2015 had Zucc not been injured, along with some others. They were at their peak competitiveness at that time, and then had to make some moves to set themselves up for the future as they realized they wouldn't be able to continue to compete with that aging core.
MacKinnon is 24. Rantanen is 23. Makar is 21. Their core is going to be competitive for some time. There's nothing wrong with going out and improving that core to make a run, but my point is that this isn't the season to do it with the injuries they have. That's not to say they shouldn't go add some cheaper pieces, but in my opinion it would be foolish to use their assets to make a push this season.
That being said, I see the other side of the argument where the West is wide open this year and if they can add a Kreider, and then get these injured players back before playoffs they should have clear shot to the finals. It's just not what I would do. |
